Total Wireless
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:18:35 PM »
At the end of April I would have served my two years (cell phone contract) with Verizon and will have my freedom. I have the iphone4 which still works fine so I'll be switching that over, my Wife and Sons phones are shot so we'll be picking them up a used/refurbished phones to hook up. We want to know if anyone has tried the Total Wireless plan? I know they use the the Verizon network but looking for some reviews.

Total Wireless is another new Verizon MVNO brand under Carlos Slim's America Movil/Tracfone system as an exclusive partnership brand with Walmart. Total Wireless/PagePlus/StraightTalk are pretty much the same thing with the same terrible customer support but with different price points.

Don't stick with Verizon coverage unless absolutely necessary (go GSM if possible - better pricing and nicer MVNOs to deal with), and if you're still wanting to go Verizon, try using Selectel, Red Pocket or BYO Wireless instead... though you won't be able to bring any LTE handsets with those brands.

Check the guide for more information.

That is correct, Total is a non-LTE, CDMA only Verizon MVNO like the other three brands I mentioned. The problem still remains for BYOD in that the selection of non-LTE Verizon handsets are dwindling if you want a schmancy smartphone or already have a Verizon handset.

Dh went to total wireless when his page plus month ended. So far cell service has been the same, good reception even in remote areas(that's why we don't do other carriers/towers, their reception is only good in the city, and we spend a lot of time out of the city). He likes having more data and unlimited calls and texts to better run his side hustles. I can't complain so far.

UPDATE: Switched to total wireless and while it wasn't seamless, it is $92.00 less than my old Verizon contract! I ported over all numbers, brought my iPhone 4, purchased a total wireless galaxy S3 for my wife and it was my sons iPhone 4 that just didn't take. I then ordered him a phone which didn't work so they sent me a new one. Was it a pain to deal with off shore people? YES! So I reached out to corporate in Miami who made things right. That small pain is well worth $92.00 a month savings on top of getting 4 more GB of data while still being on the Verizon network. I don't have the newest phones every 6 to 12 months, but I don't need that. I don't have 4G/LTE but my 3G works fine and is a lot more than when we had no G. Customer service is not 24/7, but I only called customer service twice in my 2 years when on contract. Feeling very mustachian right now! :-)
