Title: The Thousand Dollar Journal
Post by: arebelspy on August 20, 2020, 12:24:40 PM
This is a cool project I came in contact with--the thousand dollar journal.

The idea is targeted at people struggling to save, on the low end of the income spectrum.

In general, a lot of people don't know basic financial literacy skills, and this journal aims to teach them and help them along a journey to beginning savings.

Likely elementary to many here, but perhaps not for your friends/family/graduating nephew/etc. :)

What a good idea. I’ll have to look into this more. I am trying to get a toe into financial coaching and I’m seeing already that we will need to focus on the very basics, which is something people who frequent these parts of the internets usually gloss over because we do it instinctively or have the good fortune of not having to worry about pinching pennies to that level.

Thanks!  Ordered a 4 pack.  If it turns out great I'll order more.

It sounds like something designed to teach good behaviors that will enable the knowledge to actually be used.

Got PDFs and looked them over, they look great!    Ordered another 20 to give away to interested folks.

Awesome! Glad to hear they're high quality. I saw the PDFs as well and think the creator did a really good job on them.

Hi all - thanks so much for your support. We really appreciate it.

Yes, I'm the person calling myself "The Seven Dollar Millionaire" which came from a question my daughter asked when I was teaching her fin-lit, "What's the smallest amount of money I can save every day to become a millionaire in my lifetime?"

One of those spectacularly sensible, only-a-kid-could-ask-it kind of questions that I needed to work out the answer to. $7 invested for 7% returns, from 20 to 70, turns into a million dollars between your 69th and 70th birthday.

It isn't necessarily the most ideal saving plan, and there are more potential wrinkles to it than on my grandmother's hand, but she was inspired to start saving, because it was within reach - and that was more important than anything else. Starting is everything.

The journal came about as the answer to "what next?". Track your saving, track your spending, get more control over both... and provides probably the best short to medium-term target between $7 and $1,000,000, the first four-figure amount between 1 and 7!

So I am really glad you like it, and I apologise in advance for the likely slow-speed of postage. I will get it to you as soon as I can.

Thanks again.

Michael

Thanks for posting thousanddollar.
Question for you..if I'm buying this to send to a friend of mine and we are in the US, Doea that mean we buy the book that says US$7 Thousand?

Maybe this is a dumb question..just wanted to make sure he didn't get a book that has a bunch of Singapore dollar signs in it becuase that would be confusing

Hi Frugal

I am so sorry, but I literally just saw this. I am not normally a forum guy, and I've had my head down on getting the journals out.

If you already ordered your copy, all good, it should be on the way. No need to worry about Singapore dollars or US dollars. Same sign. We deliberately didn't put any pre-fixes on (ie, US$, S$, NZ$, AU$ etc) because we were aiming for it to be used universally.  I just made a special offer for my adopted hometown!

Once the campaign ended, we only left the PDF versions on Indiegogo. I would love to send out the hard copies but the global postal system is really chaotic right now, and expensive if you want it to be fast and reliable (someone wanted two copies rushed to the UK - it cost US$150 - not in keeping with the message of the book!!).

Thanks for your support, and if you still want a hard copy, let me know on thousanddollarjournal (at) gmail (dot) com
