Sprint 50% off deal
« on: December 07, 2016, 01:27:51 PM »
I'm looking to lower my cell bill. We somehow got stuck with paying ATT $270 per month. Yes that includes some stuff we won't continue (payments on iPhones - $50, "free" tablets at $20, protection plan at $30) but still we've been paying too much. I paid off the balance on the phones and am thinking of taking them to Sprint where I was quoted $50 per month for our 3 lines.

Anyone done this deal?  How was/is your experience?

Thanks!

Is it $50 total, or $50 per line?

Are the phones Sprint compatible? (AT&T is a GSM network, and many phones only include the right radios to work on GSM i.e AT&T and T-Mobile.)

Personally I ended my contracts a while back and started buying GSM phones so I could choose my network. At first, I used T-Mobile, but then I switched around; I've used Straight Talk, H20, Cricket and now Google Fi.

Since you have AT&T compatible phones, you could switch to Cricket. You could get 3 x $40/month plans - $30 family discount = $90 / month total.

Cricket isn't perfect, and it's actually part of AT&T, but it is one option for you. With a little research, you could do really well with H20 wireless or another AT&T compatible MVNO.

Yeah that's $50 total for all 3 lines.  Per month. 6 gig high speed data, unlimited 2G after that. Unlimited talk/text. Plus tax of course.

The guy at the Sprint store said the iPhone 6s will be compatible. They guy at the ATT store said they won't be compatible with Sprint. Haven't been back to see who's right but I'm leaving ATT regardless.

The same plan with ATT would be $111.

Unless someone is feeding me a bunch of lies it looks to be a no-brainer.

That sounds like a crazy cheap deal at Sprint. What does it include? Is it only for a few months (at which point it switches to a higher rate?) Are you stuck to a contract to get the rate? If so, what are the terms of the contract?

Whenever it's direct from a major carrier, there's always gotchas and hidden prices. Switching from a GSM carrier to a CDMA one is going to be a money pit that wastes and needlessly artificially inflates the demand for buying more cellphones. Unlock your phones and stick with GSM MVNOs instead.

Give the guide a read instead, scale down your usage, and pick an MVNO that actually fits your real usage needs and works with your existing equipment.

No contract. Rates good through December 2018.

ATT for equivalent plan:  $60 for the data/etc (15% discount from wife's work) plus $20/line. Total $111
Sprint:  $30 (half off) plus $10 per line (half off), but the 3rd line is free. $50 total.

Again, unless I'm being fed a pack of lies...

So they definitely won't work with Sprint?  There's lots of conflicting info online to that question.

Thanks.

Exactly what phones are they?

Also, how much data do you currently use each month?

Do you need to compare to the 6GB plan, or something that meets your actual needs?

iPhone 6s purchased from ATT approx 2 years ago. That's the extent of my technical knowledge of them.

...and yes, 6 gigs is just about right for us. That'll be down from 10 gigs with our old ATT plan.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
