Registered Agent in Virginia
« on: April 27, 2016, 12:18:36 PM »
Can anyone recommend a registered Agent in VA?  I incorporated in VA, but now reside and do all work in DC.  I pay $90/year for them to forward one piece of mail per year to me and would like to reduce the cost.

IF  Va law is like NC law, almost any resident can be a registered agent.  Do you have a relative living in Va?

It sounds a bit more strict than NC.
Quote
An individual can serve as the registered agent of a Virginia business entity or a foreign business entity that is (or will be) authorized to transact business in Virginia if, and only if:

*The individual is a resident of Virginia;
*The individual is a member of the Virginia State Bar or is a part of the management of the business entity (e.g. an officer or director of a corporation, a member or manager of a limited liability company, a trustee of a business trust, a general partner of a limited partnership, or a partner of a registered limited liability partnership); and
*The individual agrees to serve as the business entity’s registered agent.

A Virginia business entity or a foreign business entity that is authorized to transact business in Virginia may also serve as the registered agent of another business entity if it agrees to serve in the capacity. A business entity may not, however, serve as its own registered agent.
The last paragraph seems to be the broadest.  I do have family in VA, and my BIL and sister would qualify under the final paragraph, but they are leaving the country for extended periods later this year.  I would go ahead and use them anyway, but they cannot even guarantee that they will have their mail stopped/forwarded/picked up.  (They are retiring (again) and just don't care about mail.  I want to be them someday)

I can wait another year, but it just steams me up to pay $90 for literally one 50-cent stamp.

BTW, this is would be a great side hustle and I'm considering doing it myself in the future.
