Cracked Nexus 5x Screen

My Nexus 5x is but 4 months old and I've cracked the screen. The repair place wants to charge me $140 to replace the screen, and a new Nexus 5x is $250 plus tax. Any alternative options for repair or a new phone that you can enlighten me to?

You can try doing it yourself - would probably work out less than half that.
And in future I would suggest getting the glass screen protectors - they've done well protecting our 2 Nexus 5x's for a couple years now - when they fall hard or on something sharp the worst case scenario is the screen protector cracking - which can be replaced for under $10.

I haven't done a Nexus but I've replaced a screen on an iphone. They sell kits with the tools needed and there are tons of videos online to show you how to do it. I think I paid somewhere around $40.
