Perk TV (US, UK, Canada)
« on: October 20, 2014, 05:02:59 PM »
I think this has been mentioned before, but couldn't find a proper post so I thought I'd make one.

I found out about this thing on reddit's Beermoney sub. It's a 'get paid to view adverts' deal but you can get up to five scratched up phones (Android 4, iphone 4, tablets and ipods also work) earning giftcards for you. 5 devices per person (multiple accounts per household requires ID).

Thing is, it's mostly passive, most people have old phones, or pick them up for cheap on fleabay - cracked screen ones being prime targets. There is a Perk TV subreddit too, with cheap devices of the week.

As always, this is best for Americans - the rate of earning is higher - but it works ok in Canada too.

I currently have two devices running, and getting a $5 Amazon gift card took 4 days. Two more phones on the way so theoretically $5/2 days = $75 a month.

You can clear $1k a year with this. Shove phones in a drawer (connected to wifi and power!), look at them every few hours to confirm you are still watching/phones haven't frozen.

I was skeptical, but I've got $10 of Amazon credit so far (also available Walmart, Starbucks, etc).

Referral link: http://perk.fm/4j4ff

Normal link: perk.com

Some people on the reddit sub were saying that this is basically free/play money... to get entertainment. If we only lived in the US I'd be using this for toilet paper and chocolate bars frm Walmart or Amazon! As it is I'll probably do one order a year to family in the US... or just get the odd thing that can be shipped up here.

I have no idea how long this will live for. It's a low earn rate per video, but it just chugs along. Oh yeah, it uses bandwidth (obviously) - you can set to low bandwidth, and it chews about a gig per device per day, I think.

Another Perk fan here. They have a great selection of gift cards to choose from (https://www.perk.com/perk/waystospend/all), and their turnaround time for processing rewards is super fast.

Tip: You can get discounts on some gift cards by requesting them through the Perk Wallet app instead of through their website (ex. a $25 Amazon gift card is currently 25,000 points on their website, but 24,250 through the app). Guess it's a "Perk" offered to encourage use of that app. Not sure if they will always offer these discounts, but it's worth keeping an eye out for.

Yeah I'm just taking the $5 for 5k points as soon as I get enough ;) Too jumpy at the moment about it all being too good to be true!

The offers in browser look pretty crap - especially for a non-American. Surveys, install apps, etc. Just getting devices running vids seems the best thing. Not sure.

I've got an old droid sitting around so I'll give it a shot using your referral code.  We'll see how it goes.

Needs to be Android 4.0 or higher.

I'd suggest getting Perk 1.3.1 as it doesn't have 'are you still watching' prompts.

Just hit 10k points + $10 redeemed already. Slow and steady...

This really is a good site/app and if you want a cheap phone to run it on you can use the kyocera hydro which is $34.99 on Boost mobile (pre owned)

http://www.boostmobile.com/shop/phones/kyocera-hydro-preowned/

and if you want you can also use topcashback (this is a ref link, I get a kick back if you use it to sign up) http://www.topcashback.com/ref/Soren which offers $35 cash back on the 34.99 phone. After tax and such you pay about $2 and some change for your phone. I have done this and it does indeed work. You do have to wait about 3 weeks for topcashback to credit (via paypal). You can expect to make at least a dollar a day using the kyocera on perktv.

Btw boost's phone plans don't seem terrible either.

Also forgot to mention, but perk allows you to run 5 devices at a time. I think the topcashback site will let you buy 2 phones at a time, although when I did it I spaced the purchases out to make sure I got paid the $35 dollars from the first purchase before I made a second purchase. Both went through fine.

I'd suggest checking out the Perk TV reddit, many phones available for under $35 - there is a 'cheapest devices of the week' thread stickied.

Also, from a green perspective, I'm buying phones with cracked screens off ebay. They'll still do the trick.

Davrobobev- I don't see anything close to the $2 cost I posted on the deal of the week in reddit , looks like $8 is the current lowest (though there does seems to quite a selection of phones and certainly some there are better phones than a hydro). As far as the green comment goes- buying pre owned like I suggested is pretty similar to buying your cracked screen phone, except of course you only payed $2 and you got a factory reconditioned phone without cracks. The kyocera isn't a great phone, but its hard to beat $2 if you only want a device to perk with. I've had my kyoceras about 5 months and had no issues yet.

Wow, sorry I skim read your first post - saw the $35 and stopped reading. Yeah that's an amazing deal!

Here in Canada... meh. Which, after a failed rundown to the US to find the $8 beasties, I've just been picking up cracked screen ones.
