Does anyone use these as their bed? normal beds are too big and bulky for when moving house etc just looking into alternatives

I had one custom made for me when I moved back to the states.  I think I had it stuffed with cotton.  If I remember correctly, the ones I had in Japan were stuffed with wool.  I remember I had to hang them outside when they were new for like a week to get rid of the smell.

I've been using it for about a decade now.  I love it.  My wife likes it, too.  That's always a plus.

My parents, when they visited me in Japan, were nervous at first about sleeping on the futons, as my father doesn't have the best back.  However, they slept well and were pleasantly surprised at how nicely they felt.

When I was in an apt I did, although I "cheated" and ordered one with bedsprings as well as stuffing inside. Easy to bring into my 4th floor walkup when new, as it came compressed in a box (and Amazon actually delivered it to my door).

However, once "reconstituted", it wasn't nearly as easy to fold up small again. Still easier to deal with than a mattress with rigid sides/corners, etc., though.

Don't use a bed at all - they're a scam.  If you have carpeted floors, just sleep directly on that.  Way easier when you're packing to move.

For moving, a foam mattress can be a better option, if you can find a bag to vacuum seal it.

I use one. The thin ones are really pretty nice if you sleep on your back, less so if you sleep on your side. It is MUCH easier to move than a full-sized mattress.

If it's more than a couple inches thick, it's not a "Japanese" futon.

Any recommendations? The really good Japanese ones are like $500+

I use the EMOOR futon. It seems to be $240 on Amazon right now. I bought it for something like $150. Not sure why the price increased.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
