Making shoes last longer: insoles
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:28:27 AM »
The leather's still shiny, the tread is still good, but the cushion is going in my work shoes.  I slid a pair of Dr Scholls insoles in this morning and Ah, that feels better.

For shoes worn indoors, on carpeted office floors, this can be the first thing to go.  It's the easiest hack for more comfortable shoes.

I bought a pair of Clarks Lucena sandals two years ago, that are badly cracked on the inside across the stitched down leather insole.

I'm thinking of gluing part of a foam insole inside them, as the rest of the sandal is still in good condition, but obviously I don't want the foam insole to show round the edges. Still haven't decided quite how to do it.

The other option is that I return them to Clarks customer service and complain about the poor lifespan of the insoles.

I had a pair of Mephisto sandals before these that lasted 12 years before the insoles got too nasty for me to wear them any more

Are these available in the USA?  I've only done leather soles.  Didn't know about these.

I should think so. Most cobblers (all cobblers that I've visited) have known about them, and my MMM friend in Australia was able to find them :)

They truly extend the life of your leather shoes! And usually under $30, it's way cheaper than replacing the entire soles of your shoes. They also give you a bit of tread/traction, so that your leather shoes aren't so slippy. A great investment if put on shoes that have a chance at longevity.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
