As an enthusiastic Mustachian, I frequently shop at ALDI because of the excellent quality / price = value they offer.

A while ago I moved into a new apartment, and - also being a Mustachian - don't own a car - which increased the time spent to buy groceries and the proportion of stuff bought at more expensive places..

So.. a few weeks ago I found out that Instacart delivers ALDI products. It is super convenient, I spent $30-$40 twice and delivery is included.

1 gallon of milk: $2.55
Loaf of bread: $0.85
Avocado: $0.99

I live in NYC and these are the same than their brick&mortar prices - so these prices are really good especially for home delivery and it saves a lot of time!

Check it out here - if you decide to order through them, we both get $10 extra sign-up bonus:

Cheers !

Leaving out the applicable facts really ...  grinds my gears
I tried to find out the delivery costs at Instacart's site - but they WILL NOT SHOW them until I 'sign up'.  Ohh hell no...
Google search;  Instacart costs $7.99 for one-hour delivery or $5.99 for two-hour or more delivery (you can select one-hour time windows), though the price can increase at particularly busy times. For free two-hour delivery on orders $35+, you can pay a $149 yearly membership. A tip gets added on automatically.

1) $149 is greater than 2 two-hour deliveries a month.
2)  An 'automatic' tip is NOT A TIP - and I STILL don't know how much!!!

Hard pass

IN my area instacart delivers for BJ warehouse ( like Costco) The delivery fee is 15$ and the tip is ten percent, however you can change the tip amount, even to zero. They say whomever drives your groceries to your home also picks them out for you and texts you if there is a substitition or an issue. I manage to finagle free shipping by waiting for a promotion or sometimes if you buy 15$ worth of Planters or another brand they will pay the delivery fee. I do feel outsourcing the grocery shopping once per month saves me about two hours of my time on saturdays and I can stock up on some heavy items. Working full time I dont have an extra 2 hours on the weekend so I do think it is worth it.

If you can't find enough time to shop for groceries, then you need a better job. Plus, 2 hours for grocery shopping? I'm in and out in 30 minutes.

Pro tip: You don't have to go down every aisle in a grocery store.

Well you can please some of the people, some of the time...

Yes, when people work for you, a tip seems customary.. but you control your tip
Delivery is FREE when you sign up for a limited trial.. After that it is $99 A YEAR for 2 hour deliveries. The three deliveries I received where home delivered in less than one hour.. And carried upstairs in a 5th floor walk-up. The exact details may vary on the area you live in.

Sorry I am super frugal but I am also frugal with my time. This saves me several hours for a marginal cost --> Win !

This is called Reader recommendations.. I am a reader, I found this service extremely useful / high value and recommend it. Also it's 100% transparent that this is a referral link which is mutually beneficial. Certainly in almost all high-cost of living areas this will save 95% of money AND time...

How is it saving you money? You're already out $99/yr and then there's the tip. Is there a discount on the groceries?

By letting me shop at Aldi without relying on a car (which was not a realistic option previously) and by saving the cost of owning a car or transporting groceries through public transportation or Uber/Lyft.

Ah, yes, that makes sense.

I can see a need for this in certain areas. Fortunately for me I have several stores including Aldis I can get to by walking or for under a buck in gas but in the future to save yourself some face punch layout your situation first as to why you would use the service in the first place. Its pretty much DIY pretty much everything here unless your totally unable.

I do notice there are starting to be more and more places for the Millennials mainly where they can live above pretty much everything they need and I am talking in towns of 40k not like NYC. There is one about 10 miles from me that has a Trader joes, I want to say a Kohls department store , a Walgreens all underneath what seems to be hundred plus apartments. Now maybe in other areas this is common but just starting to see it happening here. But the advertisement for all the delivery things like hubgrub, groceries and so on is 10 fold.

I do my grocery shopping at Aldi and love it. Instacart just started delivering from that location a couple of months ago. I've thought about trying it and seeing if it is worth the time savings.

@Hawkeye thanks for the heads up.  I'll give it a try.

I'm a convert to grocery delivery in my circumstances.  I bike to work, and there aren't any grocery stores remotely on my way to work.  The only ones even close to work are a Whole Foods, and an even more expensive specialty store.

The cheaper grocery stores are all the other direction from work, so getting there involves biking home, picking up the car, driving 15 minutes each way, and shopping at a place where the lines are chronically five or more people deep.  Standing in line for ten minutes or more before reaching the register is the norm.  Did I mention that the cheap grocery stores in my urban area are pretty dysfunctional?

I'll gladly tip somebody five bucks and pay a few bucks in a delivery fee to do a task that would have taken me an hour or more, and that's generally frustrating.  Other people work cheap, and sometimes I'm happy to take them up on the offer.

Of course delivery would make way less sense if I drove past a Costco every day on my way home from work.

Instaccart is like 5 bucks for delivery and 5 for tip.  And I found a $10 coupon so it was free.  I normally shop myself but one week I was busy all weekend and hadn't gotten around to it and was running out of some basics so  ordered a bunch from Aldi and it was delivered that afternoon for free.  I don't do this all the time but it is a good deal.  You don't have to sign up for the annual delivery thing, you can just use occasioanlly and they will sometimes send you codes for 10 bucks off.
