Good forums for discussions of individual stocks
« on: October 01, 2016, 01:01:11 PM »
Will appreciate any links to such forums. Something similar to the MMM or bogleheads, but where there are discussions on individual stocks. Thanks.

My best guess would be that not many people here invest in individual stocks. Is there a particular reason you're leaning that way instead of toward index funds?

I think the market is overvalued and there might be a major correction; therefore, index funds will fall. However, there are still some solid, low leveraged companies with strong cash flow and growth potential which will do well. I am happy to risk some money on them.

And those stocks will probably get killed, too.  The only thing that goes up in a down market is correlation.

MOD NOTE: A few posts in, and this thread is already derailed.

This thread is not to debate the merits of individual stocks vs. index funds.  If you'd like to discuss that, there's plenty of threads on that topic.

This thread is looking for suggestions for a forum to discuss individual stocks.

If you have any ideas for the OP regarding that, please share.

Cheers!

The Motley Fool has various dedicated boards for most of the major
publicly listed US companies:

http://boards.fool.com/

The frequency and quality of discussion varies considerably, but
is generally better than many of the alternatives (e.g. Yahoo groups).

The one caveat I would add is that you may encounter individuals
who are quite knowledgeable about a company, however that doesn't
mean their investment advice is correct. Lots of smart people make
mistakes in the market, so following a buy/sell recommendation from
an Internet forum is contraindicated.

Thank you. Motley Fool is not really trustworthy. There is nothing similar to the bogleheads or MMM?

Not as far as I know, though I haven't looked a ton, I also haven't run across any.  (Might be worth thinking about why it is that it's apparently hard to find intelligent discussion around picking individual stocks.)
