Free Amazon Prime~
« on: April 10, 2013, 01:30:33 PM »
If you sign up for Amazon Mom, you get Prime free shipping benefits for a few months, and the time extends each time you buy a certain amount of qualifying purchases.  (Most of these are kid and baby items, but sometimes there are toiletries, undergarments, and other random things).

The key here is that there is nothing that says you need to be a mom to sign up.  You do have to select from a drop down menu that includes choices like "Parent" and "grandparent", but one option is "Family Member".  I am, in fact, a member of a family, so I selected that.

This can save you shipping costs if you are going to make some purchases over the course of a couple months, or for even longer if you are able to keep the benefits going (but only if you don't purchase anything you otherwise wouldn't have in order to get it!).

Are you sure about this? I didn't see anything on the site about extending the benefits past the 3 month trial period without paying the full $79 for AP membership. But great deal if you can!

I personally had it extend 1 time (I think it was for 2 months, but I wouldn't swear to that).  After that extension ended, I bought my own Prime subscription since I live overseas and do a lot of shopping via Amazon, and since I wanted access to the free streaming video content that comes with "real" Prime.

This was maybe a year ago.  I don't know it if has changed since then, but I do know for certain that I got an extension at one point.

In the end, you lose nothing even if there is no extension.  You get a couple months of free shipping and you are no worse off than you were before that, unless you count the advertising emails you will get.
