This is a really great card if you do a lot of online shopping.  Other than groceries, I do almost all of my shopping online, and I use this card alot.

Take a look at the Shop Discover section (https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/cashback-bonus/shopdiscover.html?ICMPGN=HDR_ALLPS_CC_SHOPD).  They have a 'mall' that has a lot of popular stores.  Like Walmart, Target, Kohls.  I can't list them all here.  Look for yourself.

EXAMPLE:  You log into your Discover card account at Discover.com.  You go to ShopDiscover.  Then you go to the retailer site like Drugstore.com (which is great, it's actually owned by Walgreens) through the ShopDiscover link.   And then you get 10% off of any purchase at that retailer plus you get the standard 1% off.  That's 11% off total.  You can ultimately redeem that for cash back.  How many credit cards offer that kind of reward?

The amount varies with the retailer.  There are also specific retailer deals of the moment, though I don't use those as much.

If somebody wants to sign up for this card, let me know and we can both get a $50 bonus!

I have gotten a massive amount of cashback using Discover, thanks to ShopDiscover and the 5% rotating categories.  This quarter's category is gas, so I use my Discover to fill up at BJs Wholesale and I get the already discounted price plus the extra 5% back.

In addition, you can redeem your cashback for gift cards instead of cash and receive a higher dollar amount for it.  For example, you can redeem $45 for $50 or $60 in gift cards at lots of different retailers.

Lots of cards do this. I use my Chase Freedom like this for an extra 5% back at Kohl's all the time. Got 10% back on a Nordstrom's purchase a few weeks ago.

*not a crazy spender, Kohl's has good deals & Nordstroms had the lowest price for a gift for my niece for Christmas for some weird reason...

Chase Freedom is a good card, however, they don't have as extensive of an online "mall" as Discover.  Honestly, take a look at how many retailers participate in their program.  It's astounding.  In addition, Discover offers up to an additional 12 mos. warranty coverage onto any item you purchase with a warranty using your card.  I used it to purchase my computer equipment (through ShopDiscover, so I got 10% cashback on the clearance price) and now it also has two years of warranty coverage instead of one.

This is a very common perk of using a credit card to make a purchase. American Express and Visa Signature cards also offer this. I haven't researched Mastercard much, but I'm sure their higher-level cards offer something similar.

I did use Discover's purchase protection on a $10 pair of sunglasses that were stepped-on a week after purchasing. I'd never filed a purchase protection claim before, so I did it more to understand the process than for the money. It was pretty easy and only involved about 10 minutes on the phone and a few minutes collecting and emailing the documents necessary to process the claim. I received a check in the mail about two weeks after initially calling in. I'm not sure I'd use it again for a $10 purchase, but I certainly would for $50+.

What I really like about Shop Discover is that, if a retailer is there, the discount is at least 5%. Many times the discounts offered from Chase's Ultimate Rewards are 1-3 extra points per dollar and seem to change regularly. If you have a Discover card and need to make some "Back to School" purchases, definitely check out Shop Discover because many clothing retailers are participating in a promo right now offering 10-15% cash back. I just got a 15% back on an Under Armour order, for instance.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
