Moviepass.com Movie Subscription
« on: August 16, 2017, 08:50:43 AM »
Hi,
yesterday I found out about moviepass.com
Apparently you can register for a monthly movie subscription ($9.95) and go to the theater to watch any 2D movie up to once a day (that's 30 movies a month).
It sounds like a good deal, but the website is not very responsive and it's not possible to see a list of the participating movie theaters until you actually join (and get charged).

Does anyone have experience with this subscription?

It sounds like a good deal but I wonder how long it will actually work.  AMC has already talked about taking legal action and looking at how they can block the services. I would be more interested in how they are going to make up the difference in movie costs and subscription revenues. There would be a lot of data that could be very valuable to sell.

They don't have any lists on their site of what theaters will support it. At least they didn't yesterday. And if it turns out that local movie places don't support it even if they are on their list, what are you going to do? I'm going to let other early adopters test it out first.

Here is a site that lets you search locations: https://www.moviepasslocations.com/

Made by some guys on Reddit.

I think I would still rather just wait and watch movies at home, I get so annoyed by people getting up, looking at their phones, and crunching on popcorn and snacks.  It's possible that at age 29 I have already become an angry old man.

Bad deal for me at $120/year.  I could go see 13 regular priced movies for that, and most years I see 1-2 movies in the theater.  Also, when I go I prefer 3D... why pay so much for a 2D movie I can watch from the comfort of my own home.
