I haven't had good luck finding dried beans/lentils at lower prices online than I can purchase them in either large packages or from bulk aisles at local stores.

Now if you want cool and obscure dried bean market classes that you cannot buy locally, lots of cool stuff online, but it tends to be priced like a luxury food.

Maybe check out a local indian grocery story (for lentils)? For rice I can often find 25-50 lb bags at ethnic grocery stores (chinese, indian, mexican) for lower unit prices and higher quality than the stuff in regular grocery stores.

I have found good deals on brown lentils and black beans on occasional sale at Target.com.  My buy price is 89 cents a pound.  I get red lentils (masoor dal) and black lentils (whole urad dal) at the Indian grocery store.

Indian grocery store. Far far cheaper than at Whole Foods or hippie grocery stores. PM me what town you live in and I can see what one is worth going to.
