Blundstone boots: who is wearing them?
« on: June 15, 2015, 12:33:19 PM »
I need to buy a new pair of boots to replace my well-worn but still nice Clark's Chelsea ankle boots which I've been wearing almost every day for the past three years, at work, leisure, and travel. I might be able to get another six months out of them if I replace the heel, but likely not more than that as the sole feels thinner and the bottom is getting smooth and does not feel very safe when I walk/hike on uneven surfaces. I am 57 and I want my next pair of boots to last a very long time, and I plan to use them for light hiking, traveling, working, and everything in between, with jeans, hiking shorts, or business casual, and I am thinking of getting a pair of Blundstones. I had a pair many years ago in my pre-Mustachian days but I didn't like the look and I gave them away after wearing them a few times. I still own a 9-year-old pair of indestructible Born pull-on boots which are still very good looking, but my wife doesn't like the way they look...She does not mind the Blundstones, so I think I will go for it...They are on sale right now at Shoeme.ca for $135, taxes and shipping included which seems to be a good price considering the quality and the excellent reviews out there. So, those of you who wear Blundstones, how satisfied are you, and how long would you say they can and will last?

Wow, Im surprised there have been no replies yet to your quesstion. However here you are.
I've had 4 pairs in 3 different styles over the last 8 years. My first pair I got a good deal on and did not take care of them at all and they lasted wearing every day through 4 seasons , as in 30 degree Celsius summers down to minus 35 cesius winters an every thing in between, for about 3 years. I am on my feet all day in a public service job, very comfortable and they look good enough in office casual clothes. In my own time I wore them through lots of rugged conditions: built a shed, landscaping, fence building, gardening, various home renos. Also hiking, backpacking, cycling, walking to work downtown for 20 min each way.
I have lots of other boots and shoes for all of these activities but I always seem to gravitate to my blundstones because the do every thing.

My second pair, I again did not take very good care of them an they lasted 4 years. My 3rd and 4th pairs I now have a "clean " pair for office and dress and a "work" pair for messy, they are both better taken care of and I expect them to last much longer, as in 6 to 8 years.

My opinion would be to try a pair at the deal price and see. They are certainly worth a try and will last farily well especially if taken care of, waterproofed, cleaned, polished etc.

I own 3 pair (all good deals when purchased).  I felt comfortable buying them as I got 7 years from my first pair without taking good care of them.  I am not hard on clothing or shoes so these items usually last awhile for me.  I will say that Blundstones are not as well made as they used to be, but they are still very comfortable.

I have a three year old pair that are still in good condition structurally, and I expect will last longer, but are scuffed up to the point where they can't pass for nice business attire anymore.  I wear them a lot (almost daily during the cold half of the year) and haven't taken particularly good care of them, spend plenty of time working outside in them.

One think I would caution you about is sizing if ordering online, because of the Australian sizing I had no clue what size I was, ended up with ones that were a few sizes smaller than the conversion chart initially suggested so I was glad I bought them locally where I could try them on.  Also, if you plan on lots of walking or hiking, aftermarket insoles improved them a lot for me with the added arch support, the insoles that come with blundstones are just sad.
