Title: Best Solar Charging power bank for powering devices via USB?
Post by: FrugalFisherman10 on July 23, 2018, 10:25:14 AM
Has anyone had experience with the small solar powered charging banks out there? Is there a good brand to buy? I see some on amazon but it's hard to trust the reviews.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DL72RJ1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A9DQH47M3MC5Y&psc=1

I'll be backpacking next week in Yellowstone and want to keep my camera charged each evening for photos/videos. I have two batteries already, but that won't last the whole time.
I need one that delivers 5V 2A of power, and the camera battery is 2200mAH

Thanks for any recommendations!

No personal experience but this is the one that I hear about PCT folks using the most-

I've bought several different brands for experimenting at home (I'm a solar nut). They have all been finicky, especially for delivering 2 amps. If you're going for a short trip my recommendation is buying a bigger battery bank and charging it before you head out. They will probably be lighter, more reliable and more durable.

Would a 10,000 mAH battery pack work instead?  There are tons of good reviews on the Anker PowerCore 10000: https://amzn.to/2vuwzN9

Should recharge your battery about five times, otherwise they do offer a 20,000 mAH version as well.  It says it is 5V, 2.4 A output.  The 10,000 mAH version is only 6.3 ounces.
