OK, I'm new here, so forgive me ahead of time for asking this.  I know MMM doesn't do cable or watch tv, but I do.  I need solutions to my $128 cable bill.  In other words, millennials seem to have it solved with Hulu, netflix, roku, etc.  But I don't want to give up my sports and certain tv shows.  How can I cut this bill in half or is it even possible.  My other issue is my $76 internet bill which keeps going up, but maybe I'll address that in a separate post.  Thanks in advance for the advice! Check out the superguide linked in my sigline (both it here on the forums and the full unabridged version on my website are there), it covers pretty much everything you need. Given you're probably in Atlanta, judging from the username, you're probably in an AT&T Uverse neighborhood. TOAST.net is a prime candidate to keep your internet costs low without needless monkey dancing and renegotiating, and you don't need much more than 6Mbps ($38) to stream a single HD video feed and still have some left over for other stuff.

Regarding your sports fetish, the best and cheapest choice is to just don't look. There's plenty of logical, moral and ethical arguments against everything from college to pro league sports (to TV in general), and it doesn't take much time on the internet to find the strongest points to turn you off of the stuff. Here's one from a purely practical standpoint. Basically, let me be the first to encourage you to try doing something more constructive with your free time than turning your brain off to participate in idolatry and senseless tribal violence all wrapped in a glossy veneer of consumerism... even if that includes playing a little touch football yourself with your friends and family in the backyard.

If you must keep consuming the circuses, SlingTV offers streaming sports packages including various ESPN and/or Fox Sports packages. Works fine with a Roku. There's also no shortage of a-la-carte sports streaming subscription packages now, either.

NFL is on free TV. You can get that for free with an antenna. If you want to stream yuor local FOX broadcast, look at YouTube TV, it will have your local FOX affiliate and Fox Sports South.


If you need NFL Network, i believe at this point it is only on Fubo TV and Sling. Fubo has Fox Sports South and should have your local FOX affiliate, but Fubo does not have ESPN if that matters.

I stand corrected, if you're a hardcore follower of an out of market NFL team, DirecTV has a firm grip on you. Any other professional sport and you can dump satellite and order mlb.tv, nhl.tv, nba league pass etc.

Check http://www.nflsundayticket.tv and see if your address qualifies.

There is no possible way for you to get NFL out of market without NFL Sunday Ticket. It's only available on DirecTV or through the web link above for "exception addresses" which are created at DTV's discretion.

How set are you on watching live games? You can watch full games after they air with NFL Game Pass. Sunday, Monday, Thursday night games are available immediately after the game ends and Sunday morning/afternoon after 8 eastern. $50 one time (per season) fee. https://gamepass.nfl.com/

Then you can either cut cable all together or go with something like Hulu with Live TV. It has a ton of channels in general and sports channels in particular for $40/month. In the view channels section you can enter your zip code to see what you would all get. If you moved somewhere near Atlanta you might get the same local channels as there. For example, I entered the zip code for Athens and it came up with both channels you want. Or cancel your cable 8 months of the year and have it installed every football season. DirectTV gives the NFL ticket free for the first three months for new customers. Sign up each year right before the season for the $45-50/month new customer deal and then cancel during playoffs (at which point I think all local channels should be airing all the games).

But really, you should try one year without the sport channels and see at the end how much you miss it. You might be surprised how your interest wanes when your not caught up in the hype every week. My husband and mine’s did. If the year was torture without your Falcons, well then you know it’s a luxury worthwhile to you and not just a mindless habit.

5  Go farther down the list of downloads and download -- "Terrarrium TV  for the fire stick", and install it

This is all highly illegal, at least in America. There's enough inexpensive streaming options, I don't know why you'd go for something homebrewed.

For Baseball, MLB.TV is running a holiday special for $112.99 for the full season (all spring training games included).  Football is the hard one, as if you only watch the Falcons then DirecTV is your only choice.  If you like football in general, I would then suggest Sling and choose the package that NFL Network and RedZone.  With RedZone, it every touchdown for every Sunday game so you would at least be able to see if they score (or don't).

I have DirecTV and pay for Sunday Ticket.  It's a huge chunk of change, but I budget for it yearly and I love it.

Khaetra, do you know if this is historically a good deal? I know if you watch the free game of the day, they email you promos, but I didn't do that until mid season, I got a $49.99 offer at the end of the July, so this seems pretty good since spring rtaining is included.

It is an excellent deal if you want every game (grabbed it myself).  If you're willing to wait you can usually snag a deal later in the season like you did, but you'll miss half the season.

Just checked my emails again - August 1st was actually offered for $17.99, but I fell asleep on it! Crazy. I didn't go for it last year - I just watched whatever game was free + what I got on FOX with my antenna.
