What changed?
Regular work happened.
It isn't too bad today. I had a rough day. Chaos in classroom and then reprimanded for several things both from my manager and critique from my students conveyed through my manager.

I figured out what I do not like about working a regular job:
  • Authority!
  • Hierarchy
  • Lack of flexibility
  • Schedules
  • Asshole colleagues
What I do like with a regular job is:
  • Human interactions

I think the key is to keep working in FIRE as hard as before, but on goals, things that fulfill you, and make you a more balanced person, on your terms. The appeal of FIRE shouldn't be inaction, but rather purposeful action, i.e. you work hard all day on something, and instead of thinking "well, good for my boss I guess", you reap the rewards yourself. It allows you to work on YOUR goals and achieve better balance, i.e. if you find you need more human interaction, you can work hard towards that instead of slaving away at the computer for 8+ hours like your job requires you to. Jobs with balance are rare; that's the price we pay for division of labor and luxurious lifestyles, we become unfulfilled robots.

I sometimes feel like this..  at times I honestly think that in a different time and different circumstances I'd have been happy to fight in some battle against some oppressor or enemy. And if thats how I died then so be it...   this kind of sedentary ho hum, off ta work and buy some shit with the money life not so exciting.

one thing I found is really good for lifting me out of a funk is yoga.... I love yoga, especially hot yoga, after an hour of hot yoga I feel like so good.

Being an entrepreneur, where you can get that last item without any of the above ones might be a good idea.

More work, more risk than regular employment, but also potentially much greater happiness, based on the above information.

meh, I get like this sometimes.

work, depressed about how long it takes to FIRE, just having to show up and be here not outside running, fishing, playing with the kids, whatev. just get serious about your fire plan and make other hobbies.

Pretty sure ARS couldn't have FIREd, as fast, without RE and that is my plan too, it adds some work/side gig that keeps you distracted from dealing with the monotony of work. make plans for the next weekend during the week or even what you plan to do. I can get kind of obsessive about making beer for this reason.

"I am feeling blue."
"Oh, yeah! I got that thing this weekend!"
"Awesome!"

more likely a peasant. maybe even had some injury as a child so you can't even fight in one of those glorious armies. I think about this too, then 'oh nevermind, I probably would have died of dysentery in the middle of winter or something.'

Ha! I've always felt that no matter how much I prepared, I would be the first to die in the zombie apocalypse. I'd be the unlucky sap taking his trash out 5 minutes before the radio announcements about the end of the world that spur every Rambo on the block to grab their guns.

As bad as dysentery would be marching across Russia with 20,000 other guys, frozen and starving, to take an arrow to the knee two minutes into the first battle...

But that last one is a choice. Besides the many other things you can do to make money nowadays, you can also just early retire!

You can literally do whatever you want now. That wasn't possible in the past.

If you don't like your current situation... Change it!  :)

OP: So you learnt something. Good for you - for getting out of your funk, scoring the new job, and discovering what you like/dislike. Now you know what to aim for. You can keep the job to move towards FIRE while you find a way to start a new job or venture that you will enjoy more.

ETA: Good call on all the suggestions to exercise, eat well, get outdoors, check for depression etc.
