Title: Semi-Retired Odd Jobs
Post by: Fishfindr on October 26, 2016, 01:28:17 PM
As I near 50, I've been thinking about what I'd like to do for the next 15-20 years. I make decent money in a corporate job, but being relatively sedentary during the day is beginning to make me sore and a little cranky. I think I need some fresh air and to flex my muscles a little bit during the day. And, I'd like to have the flexibility to work when I want or just take a two day road trip on a whim when I feel like it.

My Dad met a gentlemen at the airport recently who was semi-retired. As they talked my Dad inquired as to what he did to keep busy. He mentioned that he does anything that people don't want to do themselves. One week, he might fly down to someone's vacation home in Florida to check up on things. Maybe get it prepped for their family visit. Another day, he might take someone's car to the shop and drop it off for service. Recently, he drove someone's car across the country because they were giving it to another relative. Out of everything I've ever thought of doing in a semi-retired capacity, this seems to be the most intriguing to me. As a fireman early in my life, I enjoyed each day being different and even better yet - helping people in need.

I'm curious if members here know of someone making part time living off of something like this. If so, I'd like to hear about how they're doing with it.

Thanks.
