Am I ready? Hell No...
Does it matter? Nope!
I am not at my magic number, but my mind is fried and my body may very well follow. Maybe I could brave it for a while longer, but it's time to call time out.
My numbers aren't there yet, so I am calling this a sabbatical for now. I have a couple of side gigs that cover rent and then some, very little debt (40K on a 375 mortgage that I could pay off tomorrow if I wanted), plus another 100K at a fraction of 1% a year. Close to 400 invested, plus the house that is worth whatever it is worth when I sell it (more than 375).
The big question is whether I can cover my expenses with my side gigs, plus a bit of the earnings from my investment (well below 2%). Maybe I can, maybe I can't, but I am not going to worry too much about the math right now. I can go back to my main gig after my sabbatical (did it before), so let's just spit at the ceiling and see if it sticks. If push comes to shove I think I have enough experience and skills (such as they are) to land on my feet and coast until my little green employees fully pull my weight all on their own.
If you are reading this, have cold feet and are just waiting for a sign from the universe, THIS IS IT!

Good luck! I love the idea of a walkabout - it never really caught on in the US, but my post-college hostel trip was pretty sweet (and very budget friendly!). More cultures should be open to throwing caution to the wind, flying by the seat of the pants, and ... well, you tell me!

Congratulations, and good luck!
And, get that $100k into something 2%, quick, before the Fed lowers rates again. Hey, it would give you some latte' money...

Gogogogogogogo!
I pulled the plug early too. It worked out. 7 Years FIREd on 5OCT2019. Totally worth it. You won't regret this decision.

Good for you!! I did it back in May kind of unexpectedly and now planning to travel for a while before figuring out if I am FIRE'd for good

Being burned out isn’t worth it - glad to hear you realize that. Congratulations- now “go”.

Amazing! Good for you! I am in a similar financial situation as you and are debating a mini sabbatical now as I am unhappy in my job and FIRE, though only about 3 years away, seems too long away. It’s reassuring to hear that others are taking the leap. I wish you well!

Excellent. I min-FIREd in January and my fun side-hustle has been bringing in more and more income.
When you own all your time, the opportunities just keep on coming. Just embrace the FI - it is amazing!

Awesome! Good luck.

Good luck.
And you can always do some (parttime) low stress work if it doesn't work out completely financially.
-
Congratulations! Sounds like you are putting yourself first. You can always make money if needed.

Gogogo!
@Financial.Velociraptor - interesting, I'm exactly two months behind you. I've loved every minute of it and not never going back.

Yay! Good for you!
