Just doing my part
« on: June 25, 2020, 08:52:56 PM »
You know all those seniors driving arong with their turn signal on?
Well after my daughter telling my my blinker was on a few times and my son
now visiting, told me twice yesterday, I found out where my flasher was located,
and started to plan how to make it louder. I made a couple of attempts to add a piece
to the case to increase the sound level, it helped but not enough. So I had a Sonolert on hand,
and I wired it into the circuit. Now it is easy to hear.
If you see someone driving with their turn signal on, it's not me!

BTW, if anyone knows why, when the blinker is off, the flasher output sets at 6V rather than 0V, I'd like to understand. I had to add a zener to compensate.

Fascinating! What kind of car?

Turn sure signals on Japanese cars always sound plenty loud to me, but I have been in the occasional American car where they are really soft. Never made sense to me sine I usually don’t see young people driving American cars.

Lamps require two wires (hot and ground). The lamp likely has voltage applied to the hot side all the time, however the ground side of the lamp is left open and no current flows until it is switched to ground. You are either looking at that ground side of the lamp or it could be purely a control signal that allows control current to flow to a relay's coil or to a transistor.

Have you had your hearing checked recently?

I have, doc said it would be a waste for me to have hearing aids.
He said I have selective hearing, I just can't hear my wife!
I can hear the guys at my breakfat meet up just fine.
There is no doubt I have decreased high frequency hearing ability,
not much of a disability at this time.
I have my steering wheel in a position that blocks the indicator lights from my veiw,
which is also a hinderence.

I used to have a 1995 T-100. I wired a bell into the door open w/ headlight on circuit after I killed my battery more than once. Usually when I would get up early and drive somewhere where it was light at my destination

The wires / termination points were all there but for some reason the bell didn't come standard. I think it was an SR5.

Great truck. Sold it for the same price I bought it for after ~8 years and 80k miles

Mines a '97' it has about 110,000 miles on it. It went through a hurricane in Oct. 2018. I had a 6" dent behind the passenger side rear window and two small dimples on the hood. The insurance company totaled it, paid me $2,750, I bought it back for $726 and did zero repair and have been driving it daily since.
P.S. I had to put a little tape over the Sonolert, it was a bit to loud.
