Haha exactly.

Actually looking at my tax return, because of the depreication we only "make" $8300 in rent, plus divs equals $16k or so.. so we'll have to do some 401k to Roth conversion to get up to $22k for max subsidy.

The good news is the Federal tax will be zero $. Oregon State taxes won't be quite so generous.

This is one of the prime reasons I value my Fed job so much -- in retirement, staying in the same insurance pool as current Fed employees, and with the same subsidized plan.  It'll still cost me (currently about $280/mo) in retirement, and will continue to go up (though hopefully not on the same trajectory it's been going for the last couple decades), but should be manageable.  Huge benefit.

Are you planning to work until you reach minimum retirement age?

At the risk of sounding ungrateful (note I am Hugely grateful for the opportunities the USA has provided me. No way could I have made anything close to the stash we have today or done some of the wonderfully cool work I have done anywhere else).

I am getting a little "tired" of the USA.. I.e

1) Cost of HC and the steady drum beat of "we are the greatest, they have death panels "over there".. Meaning the UK, this pisses me off to be quite honest.
2) The political dichotomy. It seems we have lost the ability to debate.. anyone that dissagrees with you is WRONG.
3) Incredibly stupid political assertations that are sold as gospel, where anyone with half an ounce of common sense can see right through them.
4) The wealth divide between rich and poor.. and the political power that the uber wealthy swing.. to their own benefit at least.

All of this is making me think of leaving in the next 5 years or so..

OK this was a bit of a tangent to discussion, but the HC thing got me thinking.

I have worked most of my career in the US but will be retiring early to Canada due to the health care situation.
