Congrats stuckinmn!

Congrats, that's awesome!  45 is quite young to ER!  :D

Ok, if this was sarcasm, then it's really rude! Dude, you are a moderator here, show a little maturity.

Many (most?) of the people here plan to retire in their 40s or 50s. It's still a huge accomplishment to do so! If you really feel that retiring at 45 isn't early, or isn't somehting worthy of congratulations, then maybe you should go moderate the ERE forum instead.

I think you owe the OP an apology, and "my bad" doesn't cut it IMO. And if you're thinking of replying wih an insincere, sarcastic fake apology, then I have two words... grow up!

I would hate to come in here with something I'm really proud of and have some snarky arrogant dude respond with sarcasm. At the very least you could delete your own insult.

Whoa - I think you may be the one that owes an apology. There was nothing in that message to indicate sarcasm.  And, having seen other posts by Arebelspy, he is nothing but supportive of otheRs. I'll chalk this up to you having a bad day, or this being a hot button issue for you. Ironically, Rebs probably won't be that bothered by your comment. But, I personally feel that level of vitriol was cpmpletely uncalled for in this context, no matter to whom it was addressed. No reason to derail this celebratory thread this way.

+1

Sarcasm not found.

Nope, no sarcasm.  My comment was directed at the line in the OP:
Quote
45, so old for mustachians but younger than anyone in my personal peer group

and I was saying that 45 is quite young to ER.

OP then made a joke about me being patronizing, which SIS missed, but Eric got, and continued the joke (and I gota chuckle out of it, and responded with "my bad").

I don't know if it was all a giant woosh over morning owl's head, or if they got it and are just quite subtle.

Either way, no harm intended.

Having enough to retire on your own savings (or pension, or whatever you've earned) at ANY age is an accomplishment.  Saving up 25x your spending is awesome, even if you're 80 years old.  Being able to do it two decades before the traditional age 65 retirement.. super badass.  :)

I may join you in FIREing later this year. I am at a similar age.

Great to see my fellow Gen-Xers taking the FIRE plunge!

How about the 'consultant at TPWE' one? Sounds professional enough but is a bit of hidden humor. The Perpetual Weekend Experience.

I like it! Plus, most people don't know what consultants do, so they'll just nod and probably think to themselves that you are a highly paid person who just shuffles work around for others to do. Many of my peers from high school just roll their eyes when I say I'm an engineer and have told me they really don't know what engineers do on a daily basis.

You won't get many followup questions claiming yourself a TPWE consultant. If you happen to get some, you mention financial consulting. That should cover it, and you are totally telling the truth. If you get further questions, then you've found yourself a person that may be open to hearing what TPWE stands for. :-)

Only consultants know what consultants do. ;-)
