3 months and counting...
« on: September 25, 2015, 04:54:02 AM »
My boss just approved my dropping down to 20 hours a week (I'll be working 4 5-hour days) at the end of the year. I can't believe semi-retirement is so close, I've waited so long for this, I can't wait.

3-day weekends, every weekend, here I come...

That's awesome! I assume you took a paycut as well - was it proportional? IE: 50% time for 50% pay?

Yes I'm paid  (as are all my benefits) on a pro-rata basis.  I do get one other plus out of it - as a high income earner in Australia my marginal tax rate would be very high ( just under 50%), and working less pulls me under that rate. So I keep a higher proportion of what I earn.

Thanks everyone!

Yep, half the hours equals half the pay. I'm also losing some benefits, but keeping my medical and vacation time.

I do work in a field that it's easy to go part time in, I'm an administrative assistant.

I also work in a very busy office, and we've needed some help for awhile. So my boss will hire someone full time to take my place, and I will stay on part time.

I'm also flexible. My new role will be whatever role the organization/my boss needs. It doesn't matter to me if I get stuck with my least favorite things to do, because I'm being allowed to go part time.

Make it 6 weeks and counting. I'm dropping down to part time effective November 16. Woo hoo!

Thanks FV!

Three months seemed like an eternity (so close but yet so far) so I looked into bumping it up a little closer this morning.

Six weeks from today will be the last Friday I'll be working, hopefully ever again...
