Working from home - any tips?
« on: May 06, 2015, 01:17:41 PM »
I persuaded my boss that I can effectively work remotely for the summer - alleviating 1200mi of distance between my gf and I, which will be wonderful.

I'll have a dedicated room for computer/phone/etc, that I'll be able to walk away from when my workday is over - I am hoping to be able to maintain some mental separation between 'work' and 'home.'  Are there any potentially unanticipated pitfalls I should be aware of ahead of time, or anything else I might want to consider?

What kind of work do you do?

I could throw out a few ideas, but Scott Hanselman has written about it better than I would.

In short, IT stuff (I'm on a team of 3 that does emergency/escalation support for ~120 corporate clients). Thanks for the links!

Those are great links @Beaker.

I personally suffer cabin fever when working from home (2 days per week).  My work space is separate from living space.

I make myself leave my apartment either at lunch time or straight after work.  I'll exercise, have a meal out, etc.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
