Title: 2020: what's next?
Post by: OtherJen on May 07, 2020, 10:05:14 AM
DISCLAIMER: this thread was started for entertainment purposes, but all who need to vent about something shitty in their lives are welcome.

COVID-19, murder hornets, and now this:

Potentially historic May snowstorm headed for Northeast and New England (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/weather/potentially-historic-may-snowstorm-headed-northeast-new-england-n1201946?cid=sm_npd_nn_fb_ma&fbclid=IwAR0esF0sCx-366mvu0f1jM8u-k7F5RiH4Wf6QKX58msrRMHzyvXwfmew-eI)

Quote
In addition to snow, 75 million people will wake up to below freezing temperatures Saturday. For many cities it will be colder than it was on Christmas Day.

I'm afraid to guess what might be next.

January: Iran Missile Strike
Feb: Impeachment Trial
March: US goes into lock down for Coronavirus
April: Murder Hornets
May: Snowstorm

Why do I feel like it keeps getting more and more absurd as we go along?

Tell me about it.

Adopted the cat, 8.5 years old, in December.
Tuesday this week - diagnosed with cancer. HUGE tumor in her abdomen, around 2 inches across, and this is an 8lb cat. Vet says, month or so, she'll tell us when it's time.
Thursday (today) - Bought baby food to see if I can tempt her to eat, seriously considering euthanasia on Saturday. If not This weekend, then likely early next week.

What the hell indeed.

@Sibley sorry about your cat. We lost one to cancer last year. Always hard to lose a pet. Sooner rather than later for the euthanasia is probably best, but it sucks all around.

I’m really sorry. That’s such a hard decision. When our cat had terminal cancer, we would give her whatever she would eat. When she was down to little bits of shredded cheese, we knew it was time. Didn’t make it easier, though.

Sibley, so sorry.  That is how I lost Cat3.  She gradually lost appetite, took her to the vet's and there it was, big abdominal tumour.  We had 2 more days together and then euthanasia, there was nothing that could help her, it was too too advanced for surgery and she was an older girl.  They hide being sick, so these things are really serious when they finally start showing they are sick.

So sorry. That sucks and is difficult to deal with and is sad. Best wishes as you move through it.

Thanks. I'm going to call the vet today to schedule. She's not really eating, even with all the yummiest foods. This just sucks. Jill will be the 3rd cat I've lost in just over a year. First Sibley died end of April last year (old age/heart issues), then the hospice foster kitty in November (planned, known, etc), and now Jill.

Making things even more screwy is I adopted Jill because Arwen was unhappy as an only. So I will end up adopting a kitty again, whenever Arwen decides she's lonely. Given I'm still at home, that might delay that, but it's coming. Potentially in just a couple weeks.

Edit:
Jill has crossed the rainbow bridge. She came out of hiding and sat on my lap when I brought out the carrier.

Well, there's the discovery of a black hole "almost on our doorstep."

The article goes on to say it's actually nothing to be worried about, but it's another one of those "F*&(@#g really, 2020?" moments...

Aww, Sibley, I'm so sorry.  It's been a tough year for you pet-wise.  So much for cats having 9 lives, huh?

I lost my Golden Retriever to cancer a few years ago.  Also about 8.5 years old.  By the time I realized something serious was happening and got her to the vet, she had to be put down the next day because she would have died anyway.  Hemangiosarcoma - comes on fast and hard.  Damn cancer.

Oh, no. I’m so sorry, Sibley.

Gonna hug my kitties twice as much tonight....

Sibley, we've been through death of several of our cats in the past few years, starting with our best-beloved fur daughter of 19 years.  It was awful, even when we knew it was coming b/c of age.  I'm so sorry!

Middle TN had a pretty rough tornado March 3rd. Then May 3rd, we had thunderstorms (technically a derecho) that had wind gusts over 70 mph.

When it rains, it pours.

Ugh, I'm sorry. We haven't had a tornado in a while, but derechos are a bit more common here and really nasty.

It snowed here today. We're expecting record low temps and a hard freeze tonight.

It snowed in Montreal today, and it's going to be nasty this weekend.  On the bright side:  it will help to keep people indoors.

I’m so sorry. It sounds like she knew she was safe and loved.

You’ll know when you and Arwen are ready to bring another cat home.

I am so sorry, but she knew she was loved and you gave her a good final few months.

Thanks all. Just am having a rough year or so with kitties. My friends have circled the wagons, I'll be fine.

In other news - expecting a hard freeze overnight. Lots of gardeners are complaining on my FB page.
