I listen to a wide range of music, from alternative to psychedelic to thrash metal, minus hip pop, rap, and country. I tend to listen to the same stuff over and over again until I burn out of it before moving on to something else. Psychedelic rock was something I discovered about 10 years ago and it just became my favorite genre for awhile before burning out on that too. For the last year I have been treading water in boredom being sick of a lot of what I liked and not finding anything new to listen to.
Then I found remasters of songs by fans on youtube. Like Metallica. And its blown me away.
For those what don't know, many years ago Metallica lost their bass player in an accident, and hired a young guy named Jason Newsted to take his place. On the first album he played on, 'And Justice for All', the rest of the band hazed him, and even turned down his bass on the album before it was released. The album is a classic anyways, but the fans have always wanted to know what it would have sounded like if they had left the bass in there as they should have. Well, peeps have been doing it themselves and some of the stuff on youtube is just blowing me away.
I do not like what Metallica has become. I think they started going downhill with their black album, but their old stuff is amazing, and I am really enjoying listening to the fan edited stuff. This means I am also picking up other metal bands I used to listen too like Slayer and Metal Church. Its been a lot of fun.
For now. Then I will get sick of it and the search will continue.
