It occurs to me now that if Google Glass takes off then we may have people looking at art while they are walking down the street...

Well, they'll be looking at something like that, but let's not get into the "is pornography art?" debate. ;)

(Or I just have a lot lower opinion of the average person than you do, when you think they'll be looking at art, and I laugh.)
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.

Ha! I had a similar thought, as I typed that, but decided to give theoretical art lovers the benefit of the doubt. I agree though, that this kind of technology generally takes things to the lowest level. Most people won't be looking at the Mona Lisa or paintings of peaches on tables :)

KMFDM - I Heart You Not

Kind of a dark 80s vibe with the synth, I liked it.

Halestorm - Love Bites

I really like the vocal tremelo in the chorus.

Motion City Soundtrack - This is For Real

Maybe I'm just in a synth mood today.

NOFX - Champs Elysees

Maybe the most beautiful punk song?  Is it just because it's in French?

Right at this moment? The Heist by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

Some artists in earlier rotations include They Might Be Giants, Richard Thompson, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Why yes, I do have varied musical tastes.

My Chemical Romance - Black Parade

The fill that kicks it off at 1:46 and lead in the chorus just sound so damn good.  The guitar vamping is perfect, with the bit of 5th-4th-root (I think, not having a guitar to figure it out, that's what they sound like) harmonics, like at 2:07, 2:46..... beautiful.

Atreyu - Remembrance Ballad

This is the most... beautiful... metalcore song I've ever heard.  Again, great lyrics.

String Quartet's classical version of Bite To Break Skin

Holy shit, this is great.  Somehow, a kickass song that I lift weights to really lends itself to a lighter treatment without sounding horrifically forced.

Another great classically redone song is Remembrance Ballad.

NIN "Head Like A Hole" mashed with "Call Me Maybe"

Beautiful.

Hah, amazing.

I'm listening to Death Cab for Cutie's I Will Follow You Into The Dark.

Kriegsspiel you have good taste. And all over the place. I like it. Reminds me of the radio show I did in college. We would jump all over the place. Rap, to classical, to heavy metal, to some Johnny Cash.

Well thank you.  I'll bet I would have liked your radio show.

Today at work I listened to a couple songs over and over again in the afternoon.

Coolio - Gangster's Paradise (which was the first thing that popped up after I typed in 'coo' on youtube.... wow)
One of my favorite rap songs of all time.

Brand New - The Quiet Thing That No One Ever Knows
One of the best lead guitar lines of all time, IMO.

A lot of people did. Unfortunately the upper classmen didn't like some freshmen getting what turned out to be a primo timeslot (10pm to midnight Sunday nights) so we get relegated to 10am Sundays the following year.

I'm feeling nostalgic tonight so got some Nirvana playing.

Smells like teen spirit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYxkezUr8MQ

I am including the lyrics video because I realize this may have set me on the path to find things like MMM and the like. The lyrics are so random yet so perfectly capture the disillusionment that so many of us have with the life everyone else is leading and we are expected to live. The excess of the 80's, and the excess of today. I didn't want to be one of those mindless teens they are describing and I don't want to be a mindless consumer today. I guess I am just feeling nostalgic and introspective this evening :)

i listen to books on tape, music annoys me.  in the car i actually prefer it quiet, and at home there is usually so much going on (talking about our days) that music seems to get in the way and i have to shout over it.
my partner loves music though, huge rob zombie fan, abandon all ships, and stuff like that.  some of our only arguments are how loud the radio has to be turned up in his car.

some of the only music i do like is old elvis presley stuff, it reminds me of my grandmother

How about some Volbeat?

I'd describe it as what you would get if Elvis and Johnny Cash got together and decided to play metal.

Volbeat's only use is to Baton Pass Tail Glow IMO.

But seriously -- what an unfortunate name for a metal group.

I had a 90s day at work.

Six Pence None The Richer - Kiss Me
Just a great song.

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution
Another one of the most artistic music videos.  It's disturbing in the same way that Watership Down was disturbing.

Only about 2 people on this whole forum might care, as this is related to heavy angry music...

Went to an excellent show on Sunday night. Got to see La Luna and Lord Snow. Both are excellent female fronted hardcore/punk bands. These ladies have a ferocious energy that blows you away - especially seeing them in a tiny punk venue. Albums from both bands are free on their bandcamp pages.

Fuel - Shimmer

This is a good song.  It's from before the masses learned about Fuel from Hemorrhage, which was awful, IMO.

Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted

This is techno, for all the clubrats.

the new daft punk album, streaming in its entirety on itunes. really digging it.

also finding it hilarious that they collaborated with paul williams (of "just an old fashioned love song" fame), and sandwiched his song between two featuring pharrell williams. nice, robots, nice.

While I like all sorts of different music genres, I like putting on classical in the background when I'm physically at my work cube.  Here are a few I've listened to lately:

Rimsky-Korsakov-Scheherazade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQNymNaTr-Y

Beethoven-7th Symphony (featured a lot in The King's Speech)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MqrBauptrE

Smetana - Ma Vlast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdtLuyWuPDs

Liszt - Transcendental Etudes performed by Berezovsky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=picvN4UL_QQ

I think the animated scores are cool, too.  Here is an example:
Beethoven's 9th - 2nd movement

I like Girl Talk because I have music ADD.  Free for download - high BPM which is great for exercise.

Old school rap - the new stuff is just not the same.  Outkast, Tribe.

Lately like Alt-J - my younger brother-in-law got us addicted - I like Fitzpleasure and Breezeblocks.

Also like Florence and the Machine, the XX, Fiona Apple.

Anyone have any other similar type recs for music that I can seek out.

I can't listen to books on tape when I am driving, they are too slow and they distract me.  I will listen to podcasts on the computer when I am doing something mindless at home - it helps make filing paperwork less horrible.  In the car it is music or nothing - what I have playing depends on mood and energy levels.  What is in the CD player now - Best of Bryan Adams (I was feeling reminiscent).  Last one - Skyscraper Soul (Jim Cuddy) - I especially like "Everyone watched the wedding", that has heart.  Before that - Beolach.  (And I have tickets for Leahy in Ottawa in December).  Before that a Blue Rodeo CD, forget which one.
I liked harder rock and metal way back when, but after a while it gets old, it's all show and not much heart - although Steppenwolf never gets old, just gets drivers speeding tickets.
I may never end up stopping my Expressvu, I use it  more now for all the music channels than the actual TV shows.  Anyone have a recommendation for a Pandora/Last free equivalent for Canada?
