Ariana Grande - One Last Time

This one is actually pretty interesting. The video chronicles the journey of Ariana Grande's butt as it makes its way through post-apocalyptic crowds and structures. The butt defends itself against attacks from wizards, and emerges from the depths of horror to witness a meteor strike that kills it. It's goddamn beautiful.

"A Study in Scarlett" - from the Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes and read by the A-mazing Simon Vance.

PS: For audio book fans - Don't know why I just found out now as it happened last year but Ralph Cosham has died.  He is my favourite audio book narrator of all time.

Die schöne Müllerin, in the great recording by Ian Bostridge and Graham Johnson. Somehow I hadn't listened to this for several years. It is fantastic.

Tired Pony (fronted by Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol)
Ingrid Michaelson
Glen Hansard

On Spotify.

I listen to all kinds of bands.  No musical monogamy for me.  But these are the ones most recently that I can't stop playing.

Everyone needs to listen to Kanye - Louis the Child Remix

No, it's not a Kanye song, and it's amazing. Been listening to several other Chainsmokers remixes as well.

However, also been getting into Joris (Herz ueber Kopf, among his others) and Prinz Pi (Kompass Ohne Norden, among his others) in order to boost how much German I'm absorbing in a day. Fun and a really good learning experience.

I listen to a million things all over the place. Seriously, except metal/rock. Jazz, classical, hip hop, foreign music, south-central asian stuff, pop, EDM, fusions of all kinds. It's a lot of fun browsing Spotify.

So you don't like good music? ;)

It sort of surprises me given your eclectic taste.  Many genres have influenced metal over the years. Mainly classical, blues and jazz.

My response inspired me to listen to Black Sabbath Paranoid

Don't get me wrong there is plenty of shitty rock and metal out there, the same as every genre.

I mean, I may have jumped the gun with my statement a bit, since I'm definitely into a lot of classic rock songs, but so much of rock-ish music is grunge-y, full of really gritty, dischordant, destructive noises that distract me a lot, and I can pretty much never understand what the singer is trying to say.

I just grew up with lots of friends who were all into various kinds of rock/metal/alternative rock stuff who also played it poorly and loudly and it really turned me off.

Listening to Mudhoney.   --grunge-y, full of really gritty, dischordant, destructive noises
(the lead singer, Mark Arm is alleged to be the first person in Seattle to use the term grunge).

You CAN in fact understand the words in Mudhoney songs.

...alternative rock stuff who also played it poorly...
How could you tell it was being played poorly?   :-)

I guess I should clarify: I just don't like all that noise being blasted at me, in that it all seems to conflict with itself and sounds like it's failing to communicate what it wanted to.

Again, all 100% in my head, but I still think it's really distracting, noisy, and hard to follow/enjoy.

Again again, not the case with a lot of those classic rock/hard rock songs that are really f*cking cool to listen to. I just never gave rock of any kind much of a shot because every time I hear anything remotely similar to what I've heard, a switch goes off and I think "nope, not for me".

Only really listened to the Black Keys recently, if that counts.

I really like the Black Keys, but recently I find myself really bored with their music.  I don't know if I am just burned out from it or it's because their sound has not changed over the years.  Especially with their recent album.  Besides a few standout songs, the album has a feel of just being a single song on repeat.

Great stuff. Back when Haley Williams could get through songs without Dave Grohling the lyrics.

No, no shame!  I discovered the same thing myself recently(ish).  I remember it clearly because the kids and I were driving up to Camp Mustache in Washington last last May (2014).  I stumbled upon it while getting some things from the garage for the trip and I thought, "Hmmm, I haven't heard this in ages" and threw it in the car.  And then I listened and loved it all over again.  I was surprised at how good it was after all these years, and not just in a nostalgic way.  The kids fell asleep in their car seats so I listened to it twice on that drive.  It was awesome.  I don't have it in my regular rotation but I know that whenever I pull it out, it will be good.

Ibeyi! French-Cuban twin sisters who sing together like angels and have a nice ambient, groovy thing going on.

Whoa. Never thought I'd come across a War On Women fan in these forums. (That's not an offensive remark - it really just didn't cross my mind.) I saw them not too long ago in northern Kentucky. Their live show rules.

I have all of my Meat Beat Manifesto albums on a playlist.  I switch out with Lusine and Herbert from time to time, though, need more ambient at times.

Animal Collective - My Girls

There isn't much that I feel I need
A solid soul and the blood I bleed
But with a little girl, and by my spouse,
I only want a proper house

I don't care for fancy things
Or to take part in the freshest wave,
But to provide for mine who ask
I will, with heart, on my father's grave

On my father's grave
(On your father's grave)

I don't mean to seem like I
Care about material things,
Like a social status,
I just want
Four walls and adobe slabs
For my girls

Avett Brothers - Thank God I'm A Country Boy live Red Rocks, CO (orig. John Denver)

Well done, gentlemen.

love them, saw them once.  Right now I am back into John Prine non-stop and he has a zillion albums so all set.

I'm also trying to get my dad to turn off Michael Savage or worse, at full volume while he drives me to tons of MD appts and try Spalding Gray, satirist author, wicked funny and there's only one of his performance that I could find on CD, one CD so good for zero attention span father.  It's hysterical but not one laugh out of my dad.  Grrrr. Maybe Sedaris next? Anything besides these extreme right wing shows, everybody yelling, tons of commercials, I do not get it.  I do manage to hit NPR when he's not looking.

You can't, embedding videos isn't a part of this forum software. When you see embedded videos it's because you're using tapatalk. TT 'helpfully' converts any URLs it recognizes into embedded videos - definitely from youtube, I'm not sure about vimeo and other competitors.
