Sautéed kale & 3 different colors of fingerling potatoes, fried green tomatoes, heirloom cherry tomatoes, Rainier cherries, scrambled eggs. Thank you to the Farmer's Market. (ps - yes, cross posted - but it was that yummy I had to share!)

Yesterday we had steak salads made with flank steak.  Then sandwiches on homemade bread, with choice of ham, turkey, peppers, cheeses, and avocado.  Mmmmm.

And leftover cold flank steak for breakfast today!

Kale and pineapple juice alongside some pepperoni.  Haha not the most glamorous combination but I enjoy it.

It was a food win day overall. Breakfast was cathead biscuits, sausage (turkey, in honor of my husband's gout, but it was good), cheese grits (on the stove, not that instant shit), and sawmill gravy. It helped that breakfast occurred about noon.

Supper (no lunch when breakfast is at noon) was my homemade dal to which I added barley, spinach, carrots. Yummy and no need for rice. I made a ton (about two gallons at a guess), so I have lunches for a while.

sounds almost like a hawaiian pizza. love kale!

in fact.... I am having a deconstructed Polish "cabbage" role, but with Kale. Roasted Golden Beets tossed in EVOO, S&P. And a Fat Tire. Mmmm...

Rode our bikes to the beach for a swim followed by a picnic dinner consisting of sandwiches filled with leftover grilled eggplant and zucchini from Sunday, spicy turkey sausage and some Gouda cheese on homemade bread, washed down with a shared beer.  Lovely!

Homemade hummus (from The Moosewood Cookbook) and a huge veggie tray. Homemade iced tea. Also have a roast going on the rotisserie for the lunches for this week.

Fried hominy for supper. Added a spinach salad for health and subbed in ham for the bacon since I have ham in the freezer.

had an incredibly productive morning, the first time in a week we have been home to cook at all. Breakfast was stewed rhubarb and Breakfast bagels with homemade sage & maple sausage, egg and cheese. Dinner is ginger beef and broccoli stirfry everything is marinating and chopped up ready to go. Right now though, I'm gnawing on shaved fresh fennel bulb. it makes me happy.

Pasta with Broccoli and anchovies

http://myrecipebookblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/jamies-30-minute-meals-jamie-oliver_27.html

Used pepper flakes and wholewheat penne pasta, no capers. No purple sprouting broccoli.  Just regular.

Quick and easy.

I made dal tonight and actually really liked it. The secret to making lentils yummy is to add the appropriate amount of curry paste, and then to add the appropriate amount of curry paste, and then to add the appropriate amount of curry paste. Who knew?

Once baked-once grilled potato.

Truffles sound awesome, and happy Birthday!

For Dinner, I am taking the cooking method for these grilled lamb burger/pitas and using my own Lamachaun filling recipe. I'm super excited as I don't want to turn on the oven but have had a craving for a while.

Every ethnic food I can squeeze in and that I can't get at home -- I'm in Boston, and we're on our own for supper. So far it's been Irish, Middle Eastern, and Thai, with Indian for lunch tomorrow (sneaking out to meet a friend who recently moved here in spite of the fact that I could have lunch for free at the training), and hopefully something different for one last hurrah tomorrow night. Friday I'll only have time to grab something quick at the airport.

These photos are the result of also putting together a cheapo light box. I'm still getting the hang of it, and, sure, I could probably also use a new camera, but I think it's made a huge improvement in picture quality. Bonus pictures of some buns I did today and me eating a ham sandwich! Sorry about my sooty thumbnail, I was handling charcoal.

You have that great window. why are you not using that for lighting. For night time lightening, you might try adding another light on the other side, too. Depending how you want your shadows to play. But seriously, natural lighting is the best. Have you checked out Pinch of Yum's ebook? Love it. Affordable. You will learn seriously a lot from it.

Tonight: I made Baja style Talapia tacos with a cilantro-jalapeño sauce and red onions, side of ranchero beans, and cilantro-lime rice. Yum. Cervesa a given. ;)

You have that great window. why are you not using that for lighting.

Because I don't know anything. I actually opened up the window and put the box over there, but it didn't seem bright enough. Those pictures were with lights on both sides actually.

Yes, you do know... You are learning. With the natural lightening you will not need the box. I use a wood frame wrapped with white fabric to help me put aside some of the shadows, when needed. Best to you on improving your food photography skills. You'll get the hang of it. Nice thing is that with a digital camera you can delete the 100s of photos you will be taking to get the few that will be perfect.

Splitting headache all day, so I went and bought a Bounty chocolate bar and the headache vanished. It wasn't a cheap chocolate bar, but it worked, huzzah, so I might get some very dark chocolate to keep at work.

I've just started using coconut oil at home (oil should not taste so good), and have read about making chocolate with it, so I might try that too.

Had a lovely supper/game night last night with some homemade cracked black pepper pasta with a pork ragu and a black forest huckleberry trifle for dessert.

Tonight is leftovers with some grilled lamb chops. I think we actually eat better when we eat from the freezer/pantry :)

Those pizzas look amazing!

Tonight we had chicken sausage gumbo with tons of garden produce in it - tomatoes, okra, zucchini, eggplant, onion, garlic and green beans served over white rice with homemade hot sauce.

I was lucky enough to get some fresh Black Mission figs, so I just wrapped some in bacon and plan to have them for breakfast with some homegrown eggs.  Can't wait!

Since many of us are living in vegetable heaven right now, I wanted to link a recipe I tried last night for Sichuan Eggplant:

http://www.notquitenigella.com/2013/06/22/sichuan-eggplant/

Really yummy.  This was served with baked homemade eggrolls that I made then froze last spring when my CSA box was overflowing with greens as well as a tomato/cuke salad with an Asian inspired homemade dressing.

And those pizzas do look amazing!  I plan on making a deep dish pizza tonight.

Some very pretty pictures lately in the thread.

Tonight I'm celebrating my return to mi casa with sixteen pounds of pork ribs and an assortment of bourbons. Can't take pictures worth a damn, I'll try again when they're ready. Three racks in coffee rub, two in a mustard/brown sugar glaze, and one in chipotle peppers and adobo.

Just had a piece of home-made muesli slice (made by hubby yesterday). Om nom nom. Made from rolled oats, some bran, little bit of flour, milk and egg, bit of oil, nuts and dried cranberries. Yum! We make this slice every weekend so we have a healthy snack each day.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
