Today for breakfast: a pot of Kirkland Signature Guatemalan Dark Roast with heavy cream (holy shit it's good), a 12-inch bean burrito, and a bagel with cream cheese. I just wasn't in the mood for eggs, y'know?

Twelve inches long or made from a twelve inch tortilla?

We're all waiting for your IMPORTANT ANSWER.

coffee with a healthy splash of Drambui - a pleasant surprise since I found the bottle completely by mistake in the back of my cupboard - I think it was a valentine's gift from last year...oops!

Planning for dinner  tonight - Steak, mashed potatoes, roasted acorn squash, wild mushroom gravy, green peppercorn gravy, frozen garden veggies - green beans maybe? With everything except the steaks and cream (bought on sale) coming from the pantry/freezer :)

Our lunch was a huge sandwich on ciabatta bread of mashed chickpeas with diced onion, along with sliced tomato, lettuce, basil leaves, and mango chutney. Served with a side of grape tomatoes. It was delicious.

Dinner tonight:  giant salads followed by lamb shanks braised with onions, mushrooms and red wine, plus cauliflower/potato mashers with pesto and horseradish. And homebrew for me, though DH is abstaining tonight.

Homemade Drambui Sticky toffee pudding. As I was pouring on a good dousing of toffee sauce, Hubby stuck his finger in the sauce and says it's familiar but missing something....apparently his mom made a similar sauce for cakes but put chopped up nuts and coconut in it.  I'm guessing a sort of like german chocolate cake.

So in went some toasted pecans and coconut. It is all sorts of ridiculous and tasty.

Well, not right now, but last night we made some porchetta carbonara. Kind of like this: http://iamafoodblog.com/porchetta-carbonara-recipe/

We'd made the porchetta with some friends over the weekend.

Last night I made a hash of potatoes, Brussels sprouts, bacon and leftover pot roast, then cracked some eggs on top and baked until the eggs set up.  Cheap and really, really good (we ate all of it).

This morning:  weird breakfast smoothie of sweet potato, protein powder, apple cider, coffee, liquid from the can of coconut milk, cinnamon, maple syrup and some chia seeds.  It tasted way better than it sounds.

Just put a chopped onion, one pound pre-soaked spilt green peas, and a big, old ham bone all covered with water in the crockpot on low. Split pea soup for supper tonight!  I'll season as needed as I go along, but the ham on the bone is salty.

<3 Wednesdays at work. Today I had a lemon blueberry white chocolate scone for breakfast, and am now eating white bean chili and jalapeno corn muffins for lunch, all courtesy of other people (full disclosure, I provide scones once every 8 weeks and bread for soup group every other week, but still)

ed.: so the white bean chili is more like jalapeno bean soup haha. still tasty though!

That's pretty much the opposity of a hot toddy. One's good for the soul, the other for the body, I think.

Hot water with honey and lemon is good for the throat, and a bit of bourbon can help you get to sleep if you're having trouble. I'd say the toddy is good for both.

There's nothing in the way of vitamins in bourbon, honey, or water, and nothing but a little vitamin C in the lemon juice. It's not like drinking liquified spinach.

I still think they're great though.

Off to have a slice of pumpkin/chocolate chip/bourbon bread.  Last fall we froze bags of puree from two pumpkins purchased for a couple bucks each at a local farm.  We have used the pumpkin in soup, pancakes and some very yummy sweet bread.

I've recently discovered dried seaweed at Costco.  It's not all that expensive as a snack, and it's so good!

Also, DH made himself low carb peanut butter bread today.  I don't like peanut butter, but for the low carb diet it's pretty awesome!

They went on sale at Costco again...

Spicy curried slaw in pita breads:

Chop a couple of cups of cabbage.  Add about 1/4 c caramelized onions, 1/2 chopped apple, sweet pickle juice, chopped pickled jalapeno peppers and some of their juice, 1/3c canned beans (rinsed and drained well), smallish T mayonnaise, 1/4t tumeric, 1/2t hot curry powder, salt.  Mix and let sit for about 10-15 minutes.  A handful of raisins are excellent in this.  Put mixture in whole wheat pita bread (day old - $0.50 for package of 4 large) and enjoy!

You mean a slice of keylime pie or something similar, right? This is what I'm thinking of:

Great idea! If I had the ingredients on hand, THIS is what I'd make ….. and throw in some dried cranberries

Tonight - Leftover quiche; fresh broccoli; carrots cooked in a honey/mustard/dill sauce. This is the last of the fresh vegetables. It's time for a food shop. :-)

Very awesome soup of my own creation:

Homemade chicken stock, potato, cauliflower, carmelized onion & garlic pureed, with carrots, peas and slices of chorizo.  Seasoning was homemade smoked chile powder, thyme, sage, salt and pepper, then mixed in some sour cream and butter at the end.

Ahh... we call those lemon bars in America!

I'm eating Indian curry made with chickpeas, tomatoes, spinach, onions, and a prepacked vindaloo curry paste I got from someone else. Actually, I got the chickpeas from someone else too. It's accompanied by my first and total fail attempt at making naan. A little sad about that last bit...

I didn't make this, but I think it would be easy.  Our work cafeteria makes fancy meat salads like tuna salad with balsamic dressing instead of mayo, smoked turkey salad with dried cranberries, and chicken salad with lemon and basil.  Mmmm, I must figure out how to make these!

These are my go-to lunch when I don't have leftovers to bring.  Can of tuna + chopped celery/bell pepper/green onion + oil and vinegar or avocado + olives.  Add in lentils or chickpeas to make it extra filling and you won't need anything else for lunch.

My other favorite option is chopped up chicken or turkey with some plain yogurt with curry powder mixed in, then usually raisins, green onions and celery.  Maybe some thinly sliced carrot.

If you want to get really fancy, you could make some homemade mayo, and even add things like steamed asparagus.  They're really easy, and perfect if you happen to be doing low carb.

Dumpster diving again!  Individually packaged (for vending machine) beef sticks that the vending guy tossed out an hour ago.  I figure if they were still good enough to eat before he showed up today, they'll still be good after he replaces them.  :-)
