I don't really like peanut butter. I put butter and jelly (or sometimes avocado) on my toast now; husband thinks it is weird. I don't like milk either. I use it in recipes but I don't drink it or put it in my cereal.

I remember liking PB&J as a kid. At school you could line up and get a free PB&J if you were still hungry at the end of lunchtime whether you brought lunch from home or got the school lunch.  That was some good PB&J!!!  At breakfast time they gave us sugar cereal and there were canisters of sugar on the tables so you could put more sugar in it if you wanted.  This was late 80s/early 90s. Very few kids were overweight, but then we all walked or biked to school so that helped.  I don't know if anybody had peanut allergies, they didn't tell me if they did. A lot of us didn't have enough to eat at home so the lunch ladies spoiled us.

Some people have fucking weird peanut butter habits.

I had a co-worker who would take a huge spoon full of peanut butter and then slowly lick away at it for at least an hour. Between licks, she would rest it beside her computer on a paper towel.

It's often the most "normal" things that people are fucking weird about.

Sometimes you want lots of peanut butter, but you don't want the mouth stuck together thing happening!

I like to keep a certain amount of change in the change purse part of my wallet.  Only a certain number of quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies - no less and no more.
I check it 1x/2x a week to see if there's extra and then dump the extra change into a ceramic bowl.  When I get enough I put them into coin wrappers to donate to the homeless.

See, that's just a gross thing to expose other people to. At least put it into a cup and then eat it with a small spoon -- something about licking away at a giant hunk of PB is nasty (but not nastier then licking away at a giant hunk of ... I dunno, butter? guacamole? nibbling away at a giant hunk of cheese? It's about the eating method, not the material being consumed.

All this talk of peanut butter reminded me of my weird childhood habit of mixing equal parts peanut butter and Karo syrup in a small bowl and eating it with a spoon. I learned it from my mom and I bet she still does it.

My first thought was, "gross, so much sugar". Then I remembered I used to drink pancake syrup from the bottle when my parents weren't looking.

I'm a little late to the party here, but can we go back to the hair thing?

You see, MY hair is very short and completely normal. Other people's hair, though, honestly makes me want to vomit. Like please don't leave it in the shower, on the floor, near the sink...anywhere...ever. I don't want to look at it, let alone have to touch it to clean. It completely grosses me out. It's totally disgusting to me.

That's not weird at all...right?

... I was a pudgy kid. It's a damn miracle I'm a normal weight now.

It's not gross, but my long black hair has a mind of its own and sheds at the smallest provocation. Can't tell you how many times I've swept the floor, carefully checking and rechecking for any hair, only to see another long black strand float gently down to the floor...

I am super grossed out by other people’s hair, as well.

Which is pretty unfair, considering mine is long and I shed like crazy.

Yeah, I just cut my almost waist-length hair, and MrInCO cut his about a year ago (from not quite as long). I'll clean up hair if I have to, but I agree, other people's hair is medium-gross.

I can see the appeal! As a child, I used to eat chocolate rice pudding with condensed/evaporated milk and salted fish.

I like hot sauce. This is normal everywhere except where I live. I had a colleague (young Asian guy who grew up here) tell me I was the only white person who he had ever seen eat hot sauce. I believe it too. Even at mexican restaurants here the food isn't spicy.

As I thoughtfully lick the large dollop of peanut butter from my spoon, I wonder "is there any other way to enjoy peanut butter?"  I am at home though, and I do make pretty short work of it.  If I decide to indulge in seconds, I get a clean spoon. DH will sometimes ask me if I want jelly or bread or something to go with it, but no thanks, that would spoil everything.

Tomato and mayo on bread is exactly how you should make a tomato sandwich (salt optional). Peanut butter mixed with honey fueled my mornings for years as a child and is amazing. I hold my breath when people are underwater on TV - always thought I was a little odd for that.

I am extremely slow in coming back with anything witty in regular conversation. I don't generally tend to dwell on things that happened in conversations very long, but occasionally things will pop into my mind from a ways back, and I will think of something I should have said in response. I can't remember the actual length of time between come back and original dialogue for the longest time this happened, but it was over a decade from when I was in middle school to well into adulthood. I hadn't thought about it in, well, over a decade when what someone said popped up, and I thought, "Man, I should have said _____" Weird?

I don't think this habit of mine is weird, but my boyfriend does. I'm a frequent hand washer, and while I wipe my hands on a towel after I wash them (enough so that they are no longer dripping), they are apparently still quite wet. So I leave moisture on anything I touch after washing my hands. For example, he'll grab the toothpaste and ask me why I didn't dry my hands.

I wonder if this not completely drying my hands habit perpetuates one of my other (perhaps) unusual habits: My hands are always cold. So when I'm not actively typing or otherwise using my hands, I keep them between or under my legs to stay warm.

I wonder if this counts as a weird habit. Whenever I eat a chocolate bar that has many layers or components, I eat them one at a time. So for KitKats, I'll eat the chocolate, then a wafer layer, then the filling, and so on. Oh Henry's will be chocolate first, then peanuts, then nougat. I'll usually suck on smarties or mini eggs to dissolve the shell before eating the chocolate interior. I hate biting directly into the candy, but I prefer to eat them in private so I don't gross people out.

I do that consistently only for KitKats. It makes really good sense for KitKats, as the various layers break apart easily with a satisfying crunch. Other candy bars I do that at times, or at times, I eat it together.

Well, the filling in KitKats is ground up KitKats, so it's all just the same thing.

I think we are the same person lol. I pace while listening to music. Don't understand how anyone holds still while listening to music; it seems unnatural. Fortunately only people who live with me see that habit and my college roommate adapted to it with good grace. However, it has been an issue for downstairs neighbors, dormmates, etc.

I pace while on the phone/zoom/teams calls. Thanks to the wonder of bluetooth headsets I can get 1000s of steps in on a day with 3 or 4 hours of calls.

People who can sit still and feign interest in something clearly tedious while on camera are weird.

tomato sandwiches are the best especially with homegrown tomatoes and lots of black pepper.
Open faced tomato "sandwiches"*
Toast:mayo:tomato:soy sauce, preferably Yamasa: coarse salt: black pepper

Salt and pepper may be replaced by peppersteak (Montreal steak, salt pepper, dried garlic)

* please don't argue about what constitutes a sandwich, there is already loads of thread hijacks on that topic.

I love all you weirdos discussing something as prosaic as peanut butter on a "weirdest habits" thread.

I use my knife to go as deep and skinny into the peanut butter to get what I need.  I like the first use of PB to look like a drill hole.  Each subsequent use, the hole just gets a little bit wider.  When I use natural (separating) PB, this isn't possible, but in JIF, you'll know I've been there if you see a bore-hole to the bottom of the jar.
hahahahah.

* please don't argue about what constitutes a sandwich, there is already loads of thread hijacks on that topic.

Just wanted to say, I really have to try this, thanks!

I like to put thin slices of tomato in a grilled cheese sandwich too.

And this thread continues to just be normal people talking about their very normal snack habits.

Where are the weirdos???

Although, the tunneling into the peanut butter was kind of funny. I had a brother who did that and we always said it was evidence that he would probably become a serial killer.

Can you pet a dog or cat without a grossout moment?

Damn, Joe, you got me. I've never thought about this until now. I can pet a shorthaired dog just fine. Maybe I should just leave it a that, lest anyone here think I'm weird or something.

tomato sandwiches are the best especially with homegrown tomatoes and lots of black pepper.
Open faced tomato "sandwiches"*
Toast:mayo:tomato:soy sauce, preferably Yamasa: coarse salt: black pepper

Salt and pepper may be replaced by peppersteak (Montreal steak, salt pepper, dried garlic)

Grilled cheese and tomato is absolutely delicious. One of my favorite sandwiches.

This thread is so wholesome, it gives me the warm fuzzies.

Apart from @GuitarStv , all our mass murderers are staying quiet.

I will confess to doing a little happy dance when I found out that Rush Limbaugh died. Probably half of the US population did that though, so not too weird.

I always use 2 knives to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I use mayo and mustard on DH's work day sandwich. I solved the two knife conundrum by buying squeeze bottles. Two condiments, one knife. However, I used to give him a bowl of oatmeal and another of yogurt for breakfast. He decided it would be fine to put the yogurt on top of the oatmeal. New dilemma: I stir the oatmeal after it comes out of the microwave. I top it with fresh berries, then add yogurt. Can't dip into the yogurt container the oatmeal stirring spoon, so, new spoon. Apparently I solved the two knives problem, but now have a two spoons problem...

Stir with the handle, scoop with the spoon.

Dang it, now I have another thing I have to try ;-)

I'm gathering more information on new foods to eat than weird habits.

I'll emphasize that having the _best_ soy sauce is key to the recipe. Low rent stuff will just taste like salty icky crap.

Thanks for the heads up! I usually buy the cheap ones unless there's a reason, so I'll have to shop for some of the good stuff.

Yes, delicious. For a fancy version, use a nice seed bread, mozzarella and a faint spread of basil pesto.

Getting back to peanut allergies, I went through my entire school years and never knew one kid with a peanut allergy. We all ate peanut butter and jelly. On top of that, I would eat tuna sandwiches with mayo that sat in a brown bag with no ice pack and eat it at lunch time about 4 hours or so after the sandwich was made and never got sick. Ate boloney sammies also not refrigerated. Back in the day I never saw anyone pass out, taken to the hospital or die in front of me in school. No one had epi pens, never did I see the heimlich maneuver being done or mouth to mouth resusitation.

I played in the dirt and leaves and never got ticks or lyme disease either.

I do talk to myself all the time, I am my own best friend!

i did get lyme disease a few years back.
i eat a banana every day at work at 9:30am.

Lyme disease is another one that has really expanded in recent history.  Warmer winter temperatures coupled with an increase in the types of animals that transmit it have really increased the amount of infections and the range of the disease.

Hmmm, you and I have much in common. However, my brother has severe food allergies, including, yup, peanuts. Deathly allergic to them and a host of other things.

Related: He is also a chronic asthmatic. When we were kids, I never thought he was that bad because we always heard about other kids with asthma being rushed to the hospital. Took me a bit to figure out it was because our mom was a nurse. Yeah, there was always a Cool Whip bowl filled with glass syringes floating in alcohol in a high kitchen cupboard and tiny glass vials in the refrigerator. I remember plenty of middle-of-the-night scrambles to get to those supplies.

Just because you didn't see things doesn't mean there weren't people struggling around you. You don't know what you don't know until you know,  you know?

Or put a couple pieces of bacon or ham in there. Or onion. Or mushrooms. Yum!! Of course my sandwiches fall apart because I try to put too much in there, but they taste good.

the white footed mouse is the primary host. a decrease in predators means an increase in mice thus an increase in lyme disease.
