Not dinner but lunch, since I usually eat a full meal only once a day. My neighbor gave me a few poblano and bell peppers she had left from a team buffet they had at work, so I made a (almost) French Basque piperade. Served with oven-baked chicken drumsticks, followed by a green salad and homemade yogurt.

Peppers of all kinds are my favorite side dish for chicken. And yes, I gave some to my neighbor.

Whatever's-left-in-the-fridge day!

Spicy chicken sausage, English peas purée and mushrooms. Think I still have some green salad.

Salmon on the BBQ

I place lemon slices on tin foil as the base and place the salmon on top. A couple of shakes of lemon & herb spice wrap it up tight and cook on high heat for 15-20 mins depending on how thick the piece of salmon is.  I have tried a maple glace and a couple of other favours, but the family likes the lemon and herb the best.

Asparagus (we're coming to the end of local asparagus season, so I bought double at the Farmers Market this week) and probably pasta of some sort.

We had barbecued chicken, with tomatoes & basil from the garden (mixed with olive oil, balsamic, salt & pepper) last night. Delicious. Tonight will be a crockpot recipe I've never tried before - Creamy Tomato Basil Chicken. Will serve over roasted squash from the garden.

I roasted a chook and did the stuffing myself.  First time I have made stuffing, but I was under some instruction from my wife.  It turned out really good.

The stuffing had fresh herbs (rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano) and chilli's.  The chook was dusted with paprika, cumin and chilli flakes.

I also have some of it for lunch today (and more tomorrow).  So nice to not have salty chicken.

Embracing the farmer's market bounty... I've been eating black bean and veggie tacos all weekend. Just finished the tomatoes, now I've got some very fresh zucchini and corn to cook up tonight.

I've been struggling with GI problems the last two years and haven't been able to eat a lot of vegetables - finally getting a better handle on that and ways that I can eat them/which ones I can eat without being ill, so I'm really enjoying this summer a lot more than the last two. :-)

Summer rice salad for hot days. I cooked a big pot of rice, let it cool in the fridge, then added corn, diced tomato, cucumber, and chickpeas. I topped it with a savory yogurt dressing made from plain yogurt, a squeeze of lemon, cumin, paprika and turmeric.

homemade baba ganoush, garlic toasts, cucumber/tomato/onion salad and baked tomato/feta in olive oil.  Set it out with some homemade spicy pickled cauliflower and carrots and had a mezze plate!  (still 96 degrees here, so light Mediterranean food is the order of the day)

At the point in the summer when 90% of my protein intake is Costco rotisserie chicken.

I've occasionally wondered, if I only ever buy gas and chickens from Costco, would they eventually decline to renew my membership? Every two weeks, I go to Costco, fill up the car, buy two chickens and a large bag of frozen stir-fry. This can't be working out in their favor.

Costco basically breaks even on everything you buy but the membership. They're happy with your chickens habit.

Yesterday I made 3 vegetarian dishes with Turkish food. About half is left over, so we'll eat that today.
- lentil balls with barley groats
- sweet potato with almonds and feta cheese
- salad made of baby spinach leaves, marinated and fried Haloumi cheese, marinated dates and raisins.

@sonofsven

I planted kale at our cabin, that I only visit occasionally. I started the plants at home and planted our in June. The first time I visited after planting them, all leaves were eaten by something else. I suspect mice, which live close by. Last time I visited, the plants had some baby leaves, which we ate.

I can relate, I went out of town for a week and the slugs ate all my strawberries.
