This restores my faith in humanity... just a bit :)
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:55:27 PM »
So I've been selling unneeded stuff on CL, and I listed this video camera I never used that I got as a sign-up bonus when I opened an account somewhere.

After a couple of nibbles I got a real bite and this guy came over ready to try it out with his SD card and with cash to buy it. Well, he tried it out and the darn camera would not work with the SD card. At that point I figured something might be wrong with the camera (or maybe the card was messed up, though he said he just used it with his photo camera and it worked fine). I decided that the camera wouldn't be worth much without the SD capability since it didn't have much internal memory, and I let him take it without payment. I didn't feel like messing around with it anymore trying to figure out what was wrong. He said he would try to make it work, and if it did, he'd send me a check. Yeah, right, I thought. I'm never gonna see that money.

Same night I get a message from him asking for my address to send a check. He had gone by a camera store and they helped him (he just needed a smaller capacity SD card). I got the check in the mail 2 days later, deposited, it went through. Woohoo! $30 for something I didn't even buy. :) And what an HONEST guy! There are good people out there.

I just told my husband and he liked hearing that, too.  Thanks for sharing your experience.

You're welcome. I figured I should share since often we hear horror stories about CL transactions. I have not had any myself, and I've bought and sold quite a few things over the years. Maybe I'll cross paths with a bad apple some day, but really, there are just lots of people like us out there, just wanting to get a good deal or a bit of money for something used.

I had an Estate/Garage sale last weekend to sell off a bunch of my parent's stuff.  Although there were some unsavory "customers", most were really great people.

I was talking to one lady about my family history and my memories of helping my dad and using all of his tools when he was alive and I got choked up and started to tear up.  She said "Can I give you a hug?"  I said yes, and she gave me a warm hug.  Then she told me she was a Christian and asked if she could say a prayer with me.  Although I am not religious in the least, I accepted her sincere offer and she held my hand saying a beautiful prayer for me and my family.  It was touching.

The fact it that society works because the VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE GOOD.  No amount of law making and enforcement efforts could make up for this not being the case.
