Well, turns out they're illegal! So never mind! I'll just have to continue the old fashioned practice of choosing my friends wisely and making polite requests about how things are done in my own home...

I was at the lobby of the gym waiting for the fam the other day. There was this girl, maybe in her 20s or 30s, streaming some movie extremely loud. I can see as people passing by the lobby, everyone was looking at her direction with the wtf look. I thought about asking her politely to turn it down, but decided maybe she has hearing problem and really need to play it that loud. I had to move to the other end of the lobby just so I do not hear the sound.

No Joke, I remember hearing that Theresa May called for an election in 6 weeks, and they had it, and it was all over in 6 weeks. Here in the US, it feels like a f*cking marathon!!!

And don't even get me started on Texas politics...

I am a woman about 5'5", average height. When I go to buy pants, hardly ever can I find any that are the right length. These manufacturers make the pants so long you have to be 9 feet tall so the hems don't drag on the ground! Why do they make trouser lengths for men and very few for women?

They do occasionally have women trousers i two lengths.

But if there is only one size, it is probably made long enough for the tall models to show them on the catwalk.

You can always hem pants shorter.  It's hard to extend them.

I have hemmed pants my whole life, very tired of it. How many men have hemmed pants?

The trouble with hemming pants is that unless the fit is straight all the way down, you're fucking up the taper... the foot opening gets wider the farther up you go and it can look disproportionate.

My brother is 5' 5" and can never find adult pants that go lower than 30" length so he has to get everything hemmed.  I'm 5' 9"--the national average for adult men--and wear a 30".  Seems bonkers to me that half the men in this country can't get pants made to fit their height.

so i signed up for spotify's free service. so far i'm good with it and i don't mind the commercials per se but in this day and age you would think the commercials would target me a little better. instead i hear the same commercial for the local casino. i've never been to the casino nor do i plan to go. why not use some of my data that i'm sure is all over the internet and have commercials for bike stuff or car stuff or camping stuff? if they think they can get me to pay for their service by running the same stoopid commercial, they are wrong.

This is true and if you have very flimsy, silky pants, it is very difficult to handle and hem. Plus, if you take them to a seamstress you are paying maybe $20 for a pair of pants to be altered.

If I want the pants to fit correctly, then every single pair.  Suit pants normally come unhemmed (not suit separates) Jeans, khakis, etc come in 2” increments.  That doesn’t always line up.

When men buy suits from a store the hemming is included in the price of the suit. They measure you and do the work for you so you are not taking a thread and needle doing the work yourself.

?? Not in my experience. While they have the option to tailor on site, it’s never been an included price.

I take my pants to a tailor anyway. 15-20$ for a pair of pants that I get 5+ years of wears out of is well worth it.  If I was buying 10 pairs of pants a year, I guess that would be a problem, and I’d chalk it and sew it myself.

Hard work pants (landscaping/construction) etc, get my sewing skills. Not pants that have to look nice.

Sorry if that question about men needing their pants hemmed was rhetorical.

I too hate having pants not fit off the rack.

I live in a very windy, mountainous road that is narrow and has elbow curves and it really dangerous. The speed limit is between 20-35 mph depending on where you are on this road. I am not a speed demon but I usually exceed the limit myself on this road. However, the fastest I go on this road is around 40 mph and people still think I am not going fast enough. Today it is doing some freezing rain and in the higher elevations could be icy and slippery. I still was exceeding the speed limit but was getting tailgated. How fast should I be going on this narrow two lane road that is a death trap?

Oh, and there are several farms on this road and one guy on a farm tractor pulled out into the road so I had to slow down for him and then a little while later some wild turkeys were crossing the road. GRRRR to these maniacs.

John Galt incarnate!

I've had some hemmed by a tailor (suit pants and dress pants) and some (work pants/jeans) I've hemmed myself  w/ a sewing machine.

Can you stop/slow down safely (not sure if there is any space) and let these maniacs pass you? I am in somewhat similar situation. The main road that goes thru our subdivision (speed limit 35mph) has a curve that is deceptively dangerous in winter. Every year, we always see tire track on the grass where one lost control. I always slows down way before the curve, and have many times let someone pass me.

Yes, I have pulled over but there are very few spots to do so. There is one passing zone and I usually slow down there hoping the maniacs will pass but mostly no such luck. Just recently someone plowed into an electric pole and our electricity was out for about 4 hours. Drove by the pole the next day and it was really rammed hard, like a pencil broke in half. This pole is located at the end of a giant curve coming down the mountain. It has happened 3 times in the last year and a half. There is no solution. I do not know why everyone is in such a hurry. Why can't they relax and go the speed limit and follow at a reasonable distance? Maybe there would be less accidents and road rage. Why is everyone so angry when driving?

Sounds like it is time for your utility company to move the pole.

The pole is not the problem, it isn't in the middle of the road. The road is curvy and mountainous. People are just stupid speeding, using cell phones and other things. Maybe a deer jumped out in the road and the driver swerved. Who knows...

The street my dad lived on for a long time curved just in front of his property, and a hundred year old oak tree had grown in the front of his house at the peak of the bend.  Dad lived there for twenty years, and very reliably had a car a year wrap itself around that tree.

There is a guy down the hill on my curvy road that has really nice stone structures and in between each he has wooden slats for fencing. For about 3 years people keep crashing into these stone structures busting them all up. He must have his mason on speed dial. Constant repair. The odd thing is that the curve that he is on seems to curve to the other side of the road so I have no idea how accidents keep happening there. It is almost like the cars have to do a 360° spin out to wipe out his structures. He should install cameras to see what is going on!

We have lots of deer and wild turkey so who knows what happens on this road but I do know I see lots of tailgating, speeding, texting, cell phone usage, plus we are always picking up booze bottles and beer cans.

Tree squirrels and the people who feed them.

-they're invasive
-They can eat all of my lead flashing faster than they die of lead poisoning
-They destroy landscaping
-They have gnawed, quite literally, 1/2" off the entire top of my fence

Those people sound like they suck.  What kind of damage do the squirrels do?

Squirrels do terrible damage to roofs, attics, drywall, insulation, wiring. They chew it all.

At our  weekend house we are fighting a squirrel infestation in the attic area and they are dropping down into the second floor bedroom.

At our city house we have many fruit trees. These tree rats strip a fruit tree in just a few days. They take one bite of fruit and throw it on the ground. They toss unripe fruit onto the ground.

There are years where we get 0 apricots when we actually have an apricot crop.

They are nasty thieving tree rats.

And you know what I really hate? Is when my tulip buds are just beginning to blush color and the horrible beasts neatly nip them right off the stem, leaving a row of bare stems!

I use Deer Stopper spray to prevent this but it has to be reapplied after every rain, and sometimes I have a life and don't get to spray in time.

We have a terrible "town deer" problem where I live...I have at least 15-20 that frequent my yard every day. Last summer in my attempts at vegetable gardening we had many stand offs. We came to an agreement that they could eat a few kale/chard, but don't touch my tomatoes! I had a deer proof (ish) fence up, and we were moving along quite well into summer until one morning I woke up to huge rustling in the garden, and saw a bear ripping down my deer proof fence, leaving it open for the deer to eat whatever they wanted. Farewell tomatoes! I somehow still got a few vegetables out of the deal, but this year I am over fighting yard animals and I will just shop at the farmers market.

Garden fed deer sound quite tasty!
I understand that firearms in town might be a problem, but bow and arrow might work.  A bow and arrow may be classed as "a deadly weapon" depending on jurisdiction.
But  15-20/day ? There should be animal control etc.
Gutting and leaving the entrails in a neighbor's yard might be a problem, depending on your relationship with the neighbors :-).
Dogs should love that stuff though.

Of course, if the critters are in season, then they are not likely to be near anywhere they might get whacked.

I have a squirrel (tree rat) issue with my English walnut tree, and use a supersoaker (water sprayer), mostly for my entertainment.
After a long summer, I noted that there were NO squirrels in the walnut tree.  I then noted that there were NO walnuts :-).
I wouldn't mind that much if they just took all the walnuts.
I just despise the fact that they scatter walnut shards everywhere, hurting my bare feet.
Even through flipflops, the shards sometimes bite through.
We have a powerline/TV cable that provides a highway to our walnut tree for two clans of squirrels on either side of our property.

As a former East Coaster, I get flak for admitting that I hunted and ate squirrels in my youth.
It was nice to come home from school, go ~ 200m from my house and relax in the late fall sunshine and occasionally get partial dinner.

edit typo, not important, OCD alert;  garden fed, not garden feed.

I wish there was animal control around the deer problem. But, aside from a few deer who have tags, presumably for being "problem deer" there really doesn't seem to be much done about it. I live in a super small town (5k people) in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. I feel like it's just accepted that there are wild animals everywhere...even though the town deer are certainly not "wildlife" since they are super inbred, have never lived in the wilderness, and live in people's yards, feeding off their gardens/lawns. Mostly it's a joke around here, and they are pretty much seen as giant squirrels...annoying, but no one will do anything about it.

Has anyone thought that we humans have encroached on the deer's homeland and we are the invaders? What if they had guns and could shoot us? We need to find a way to live with them. We are lucky to have such great creatures in our lives. Yes, we need to cull the herds but not eliminate them. Find a way to protect your gardens from them. We humans are pretty smart so we should be able to come up with fences to protect our gardens. Might be a pain in the ass but once they figure out they can't get at the veggies, they will stop trying.

I mean, that's pretty much what I have done. I had deer proof fencing up for my garden, until a bear tore it down...then I just decided, this isn't worth it I'll just shop at the farmers market. I'd never shoot a deer, in town, or in the woods in actual hunting permitted areas. Just not my thing. I do believe there should be some control of the type of "town deer" we have. I have been chased by multiple, viciously (I know, it's hard to believe a deer could be vicious, but these can be) and it makes me nervous to go for walks in my neighborhood. There are times when I get home, and they are all over my yard and I literally sit in my car until they leave, because I'm nervous they will run at me. It's happened before. Anyway, I am a huge proponent of protecting wild animals, but these animals are kind of at another level and overrun our town. Aside from all of us moving away and leaving an abandoned town to deer (who rely on our gardens/lawns for food) I'm not really sure what the solution is. Until then, of course I leave them in peace...but it can be scary/frustrating at times.

I use Deer Stopper spray to prevent this but it has to be reapplied after every rain
, and sometimes I have a life and don't get to spray in time.
Well, now know who does that to my tulips, and I had no idea that deer stopper repells squirrels. I got a bottle for free and was wondering if I should keep it, there is no deer in my neighborhood.

I agree with some of your sentiment here, but feel that you don't have much experience with deer based on the suggestions being made regarding fencing.

It's very hard and expensive to built the sort of fencing required to keep deer out of an area.  My dad is a farmer and has a small apple orchard.  He originally built an 8 ft fence around the orchard, but found that deer were regularly jumping the fence and damaging his crops.  The 9 1/2 ft fence he currently uses works very well, but it's not easy to put up and quite expensive.   This of course is not a legal option for many people living in cities where height restrictions on fencing are in place, and cost prohibitive for a small garden.

Dad has a 90 lb farm dog that doesn't particularly like deer and has chased many of them away . . . unfortunately the dog likes to sleep at night, which seems to be when the deer around the farm are most active.  The dog's presence/scent certainly has never stopped deer from eating the apples when they can.  Caring for an animal is also a big enough commitment that I don't think it should be a default suggestion for people with issues with their gardens.

Our yard is full of grubs and moles. The moles dug tunnels under my brick sidewalk and collapsed it last fall. Had to have that repaired and was expensive.

Now our yard has ugly brown areas of dead grass and we have mole tunnels all over. We went and bought Mole Ex, Grub Ex, grass seed and fertilizer to the tune of almost $500! Not to mention all the work involved doing all this work! This is the first time ever we had grubs destroy the yard and moles wrecking sidewalks and the yard too.

Then just had a bunch of limbs and trees cut down in the yard. One tree had a giant limb that was ready to break off the tree and would have fallen onto the electric lines. Another $1400 spent on that!

Now I have giant carpenter bees hovering around my deck! I hate them and they are as big as golf balls!

I hate all this stuff!

I am a woman about 5'5", average height. When I go to buy pants, hardly ever can I find any that are the right length. These manufacturers make the pants so long you have to be 9 feet tall so the hems don't drag on the ground! Why do they make trouser lengths for men and very few for women?

You can always hem pants shorter.  It's hard to extend them.

I have hemmed pants my whole life, very tired of it. How many men have hemmed pants?

Only a few were the right length (short enough).

All the rest were hemmed by me or a tailor.

Loud talkers on planes. Especially extreme extroverts who just met and make small talk for the entire flight. Earplugs don't block them out, and I want to focus on my book. I always smile and say something friendly in return when spoken to, but I give dead-end answers because I don't want to be dragged into a conversation with someone I'm never going to see again. Why don't people take something quiet to do on planes anymore?! Even when I travel with my husband, we hardly say a word to each other once we're on the plane because it's just too exhausting to try to talk over the engine, and everyone would overhear our conversation.

Okay, today is my garbage and recycle pick up day. I just watched the garbage truck put all the garbage AND recyclables into one truck and comingled it all! Why am I sorting out this frigging crap when they chuck it all into one truck. This really irks me! Now if I had comingled it all they probably would have refused to pick up my crap!

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Apparently China and other countries are tired of low quality recycling ( really just garbage) dumped on them.  Smaller communities are now just chucking everything.

I remember at work the same happened.

I have seen this before but they went back to normal pick up where they had separate trucks pick it up. Sometimes I think they are short handed and just say screw it and just use one truck. I did hear about the China thing and this has got to be a disaster on what to do with all this plastic, cans and newspapers. What are they doing with all the soda cans that we recycle?

A while back we decided to bring metals into the local recycler who takes all kind of metal, including soda cans, food cans, etc. We usually make 1 trip/6 months. We only get ~$15 per trip. The little extra cash is great, but it is not about the money. We just want to make sure these metals get recycled. We also bring plastic bags to local grocery store.

At the grocery store I hate it when the person in front of me is yakking away on their cell phone and acts like it's some big inconvenience when they ultimately have to drag their credit card and pay. The nerve of the cashier for interrupting their Very Important Call!

I have always want a little device that can block/jam cell signals. See someone being loud and ignorant while talking on the phone, turn this device and kill his cell signal for a bit. See someone who cut you off because they are on the phone, maybe this person should not be on the phone... See someone who keep talking loudly on phone while watching little kids practice, yeah time to stop talking :)

Maybe illegal but that would be very useful to have...

I've always wanted a wireless mute button for those huge booming stereos some people put into their cars. And instant mufflers for Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

800 or 1900 MHz maser right?    As a pedestrian/motorcyclist  I've seen a lot of " distracted" cell phone users.

Maybe for enforcement of cell phone handheld use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictions_on_cell_phone_use_while_driving_in_the_United_States, the FCC could rule that cops could blast them given a nice maser "rifle".

A federal transportation funding law passed in July 2012, known as the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), provided $17.5 million in grants during fiscal year 2013 for states with primary enforcement laws against distracted driving, including laws prohibiting cell phone use while driving. States with secondary enforcement laws or no laws at all are ineligible to receive this grant funding.[3][4]

Given the vast money and emotional investment of cell phones (anxiety attack if misplaced for example), then since people are immune to killing others while phone/texting ***, disabling the phones seems like a good idea.

Via Wikipedia entry from above.
***Cost of distracted driving

A 2014 report from the National Safety Council, which compiles data on injuries and fatalities from 2013 and earlier, concluded that use of mobile phones caused 26% of U.S. car accidents.[23] Just 5% of mobile phone-related accidents in the U.S. involved texting: "The majority of the accidents involve drivers distracted while talking on handheld or hands-free cellphones."[23]

The U.S. Department of Transportation has established an official website to combat distracted driving, Distraction.gov.[24]

In 2010, the State Farm insurance company stated that mobile phone use annually resulted in: 636,000 crashes, 330,000 personal injuries, 12,000 major injuries, 2,700 deaths, and $43 billion in damages.[25]

We are in a week of software testing with the customer present. One of the testers has to run the show this morning. I told him on Friday that he needed to be here at 8:00 am, as I had no one else to improvise to on that day. He shouldn't be late, like he was the day before. Still, now it is 08:30 am, he is still not here. Me and the customer are waiting. I feel very embarrassed towards the customer.

He ended up being half an hour late one day, letting one customer wait. And another day when we would start at 9 am, he was half an hour late, letting 10 customers wait. I told my boss that I found it very embassarring towards our customers. She will talk to his boss. I don't think they will fire him for that, but it may play in at the salary increase.
