I hate: The architectural " style" that has the garage as the major/ only feature. I've been in residential neighborhoods that looked like industrial alleyways.
I understand tight lots, but would pushing the garage back a few feet really be that much of a problem?

We call that a Garage Mahal. It was a deal-breaker when I was house hunting.

Tiny lots almost dictate that kind of home design. I new someone whose garage was on the back of the house. There was a driveway's width of space between the end of the house and the property line. Once the car got around back there was a big concrete pad to turn around on or the driver could simply back into the rear facing garage. It worked well and gave the front of the house a tidy look.

From a garage hobbyist point of view a forward facing garage is terrible b/c in the evening if the garage door is open then anyone who passes by can see all your hobby equipment - tools, gym equipment, whatever. Night time lights make it even worse. Great way to attract thieves.

I'm happy someone wants to live in those tight little neighborhoods with the forward facing garages. Not my family though. Our garage is our project space. We don't need a mansion, just a cottage size house but the lot needs to give us enough outside space to play.

I hate it too for aesthetic reasons but see the point of it from an efficiency standpoint. Much less snow to shovel, and you get more green space behind the house. I have never lived in one. My parents have the garage underneath the house, which accomplishes the same thing without being so glaring.

One of my colleagues is building an underground garage. That is a really expensive solution compared to building one above ground. Pretty, but not the most economic solution.

(cutting for length)

I wouldn't worry about occasional fasting turning into disordered eating, there's lots of evidence of health benefits and of all the studies I've seen there's never been any indication that temporary fasting can change eating patterns in an unhealthy way.
There are actually studies that indicate that fasting can be a risk factor for disordered eating. Not always, and not in everyone, but there is a link there. For a person at a healthy weight, restricting calories or eating times is unnecessary and potentially harmful. For people with current or former eating disorders, fasting is downright dangerous, and for overweight individuals, fasting as a weight loss strategy should probably only be done with the supervision of a doctor.
That being said, I just meant to point out that hanger is real, going too long without food can cause it, and eating when you're hungry is probably the best way to go, instead of trying to train your body to ignore those cues as if eating is some sort of addiction, because it's not.

citation link?
Not a study, but a discussion on why you shouldn't ignore hunger cues
http://nedic.ca/blog/your-hunger-not-meant-be-suppressed
A study that shows a link between fasting and bulimia
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2850570/
And this is about the link between religious fasting and eating disorders
https://www.scienceofeds.org/2015/04/10/not-so-fast-is-there-a-connection-between-religious-fasting-and-eating-disorders/

From what I can tell, it seems like fasting can be a trigger for an eating disorder for some people, but obviously not everyone who fasts will develop one.
If I can tie this back into the thread title, I hate how our culture pushes such a narrow beauty ideal and so much bad science on nutrition and eating habits to the point that people literally kill themselves and live miserable lives dieting to attain that ideal. I blame the processed food industry too for the disinformation and advertising they push to get people to eat their garbage products. I think the obesity issue and the eating disorder issue are both symptoms of a society that is fed conflicting ideas about how to eat well.
I hate how far removed most people's eating habits are from what is healthy and how it is perceived as too difficult or expensive to eat a diet of mostly whole natural foods prepared at home and shared among loved ones.

ah, got it.  in the context of eating disorders, you don't want to encourage at-risk persons to stop eating.

i've mostly seen time restricted feeding and fasting in the context of athletic performance and as a way to reverse metabolic disease.

i share your hate and disgust for the food/marketing/beauty industry.  i refuse to watch anything with commercials.  my daughter is 9 so she's about to be bombarded with toxic messaging from that segment of our society.  she hardly ever sees tv commercials so i'd say 80% of it will be averted, but you can't control what her friends are watching and repeating so i'm sure we'll have an ongoing conversation about image and all that.  thankfully she's a fully committed athlete, which keeps her busy and fit.

Okay, today is my garbage and recycle pick up day. I just watched the garbage truck put all the garbage AND recyclables into one truck and comingled it all! Why am I sorting out this frigging crap when they chuck it all into one truck. This really irks me! Now if I had comingled it all they probably would have refused to pick up my crap!

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Apparently China and other countries are tired of low quality recycling ( really just garbage) dumped on them.  Smaller communities are now just chucking everything.

I remember at work the same happened.

I have seen this before but they went back to normal pick up where they had separate trucks pick it up. Sometimes I think they are short handed and just say screw it and just use one truck. I did hear about the China thing and this has got to be a disaster on what to do with all this plastic, cans and newspapers. What are they doing with all the soda cans that we recycle?

Some garbage trucks are divided on the back. The rest garbage goes left, the other goes right. Let's hope it was that. Ask a question to your provider or ask the local newspaper to check it.

I have glaucoma and am always at the eye doctor for pressure checks on my eye balls. I went on Medicare last year and also bought Plan F supplement. With Plan F, I should have almost no doctor bills. So I go to the eye specialist the other day after about 2 months and I am thinking I will not get charged. When I am done, they tell me I owe $55 for the eye test (for glasses). I did not ask for this test and did not give it any thought when the doctor was doing it. I had the damn test done 6 months prior. SOOOO, this doctor is scamming to get additional monies from his patients. Before I went to the appointment, I said to myself, Okay, I am on Medicare and Plan F so I shouldn't pay anything today. Then I get hit for $55 because Medicare does not pay for regular eye exams. I paid twice for this exam in one year! I spoke to the woman in the office and asked how many times a year is this regular eye exam done. She said it is only needed one time a year. I mentioned the glaucoma and maybe that had something to do with it and she said NO, it is only needed one time a year. She asked if I wanted her to put a note in my file to only have one exam a year and I said yes. GRRRR!!! This really, really IRKS me!

Went  to the grocery store on Friday and bought a crap load of stuff. I have some very nice insulated bags and some regular tote bags. I wasn't paying too much attention to the lady who was bagging but what a HORRIBLE job she did. I did not expect she was going to put cans and jars in the insulated bags along with meat and other cold stuff. She also put bread at the bottom of a bag and put some items on top of it and you guessed it, bread was a bit squashed. She also had so much weight on top of the cold cuts, the cheese I bought was bent! I had a box of cereal that was squashed and the box was a disaster. Come on, putting crap in bags is not a job you have to go to college for 4 years. Is there no common sense at all anymore? OMG, when I got out to my car I had to repack everything. This woman didn't look stupid or maybe she just didn't care. UGH! I think as children we all played with blocks and had to figure what shape went into what hole to fit. What is so difficult in packing groceries? Like items go together. Meat and cold items go together. Boxed, items (cereal, pasta, rice, oatmeal) go together. Produce goes together. Canned and glass items go together but not 150 lbs in one bag. Bread, chips, delicate items go together. Laundry and soap items go together.  Simple Simon could do this. UGH!

Ahaha, I am totally totally OCD on the bagging thing.  It's ONE of the reasons I go to the cheapie grocery stores that make you bag your own stuff, or I should say *lets you* heh.  When I go home, I want to pick up a bag and go ONE place, refrigerator, pantry, warm produce, bathroom, etc.

We don't have this, people putting groceries in your bag. We are always stressing ourselves to fill our bags while the cashier is still scanning articles. If I have the time, I pack it in a very organized way. But if the scanning goes fast and the next customer is waiting, I throw everything in in a less organized way. Feel really bad about that. Shopping is best when you are two, so that one person can pack and the other can pay. But when does that happen?

This recycle thing is becoming a real problem in the USA. China used to take our recyclables but now they have more stringent rules on what they will take and that is almost nothing. So the garbage companies are in a bind as what to do with these things they can't get rid of. There was a show on tv about it and one big problem that was discussed is that we have too many one time use containers going into the trash. All those juice boxes, cans, bottles. Styrofoam that cannot be recycled. All the plastic that is in our oceans. Very sad indeed.

My complaint Johnez is geared around what you said. If all my meats, dairy, cold items are in one bag it makes it easier to unload the stuff in the refrigerator. Same with canned, jarred, veggies or boxed things. Everything is in one place and not scattered from bag to bag. I have an organized way of looking at this that the baggers don't seem to have. I do think when cardboard boxes and bread are crushed by cans and jars I do have a reason to crab about it!

Aldi is the only store other than Costco in my area that doesn't pack your grocery bags.

This is what I hate about grocery shopping here in Italy - I'm usually dealing with 2 kids, while both bagging and paying for my groceries all at the same time.  And then other people get grumpy when I'm not fast enough and there isn't room for their stuff.  I really miss grocery baggers in the US.

Well Hula Hoop,, I guess in your situation with 2 kids any bagger would be better than none just to get the stuff packed up. I usually end up reorganizing the stuff in my car. It drives me NUTS!

This irritates the hell out of me too and While in our area we do have some trucks that do both most don't. What i have been watching though is that if there is any weather of any kind then for sure its just dumped in the same truck. I saw a special not that long ago that one of the biggest problems is all these plastic bags jam up the recycling machines. It makes sense and they showed video. You take a plastic bag and twist it up it becomes one piece of strong as rope type thing. Anyhow we seem to have gone backwards in the recycling in our area.

Another thing I am hating of late is I have had to deal with more snow this winter than probably the last 5 years in combined the body is just not built for it. Even with a snow blower.

The robocalls I am with everyone on. So many times to I get calls and it ends up not being a rule human though it sounds like it until you ask a question. Alot of these seem more job related.

I hate the fact I pay taxes for our good schools but yet they are always asking for us to donate and bring more stuff to school. Our teachers in my mind are underpaid and then they need to beg for stuff is ridiculous. This to me is just wrong. Where are our priorities when it comes to kids/Future.  This is an area if my taxes had to go up a few bucks then so be it.

i know this thread is about things we hate, but there is a simple solution to the bagging problem.  i take my own bag and tell teh bagger 'i got it, thank you' and they usually are busy enough to find something else to do for 3 minutes while i bag the stuff.  also tell the checker to send me the heavy stuff first so it goes in the bottom, or place items on the counter in order i want to bag them.

as for the Looks from people behind me.. oh well!  i do my thing you do yours and frankly it's usually faster for me to bag than to wait for the checker to start bagging.

the thing i HATE the most is when my spendy wife loads up the credit card with $2k worth of shit she wants without a thought about what that does to our finances.  i'm honestly so tired and beat down by her financial abuse that fighting is just pointless.

i HATE the phrase 'happy wife, happy life'.  more like happy wife, broke life.

(we have an amazing almost 10yr old so anything other than staying married is out of the equation.)

In Canada, nobody at a grocery store will bag your groceries.  It's expected that you will do it yourself with your own bags.  You can purchase plastic bags if you want though.  :P

Well, easier said than done. If you have a full cart and are unloading it onto the belt by the time you get the cart emptied the bagger has already bagged up half the order at least. I have nicely given some instruction on what to put in the bags but what I say goes to deaf ears. It is a minor gripe in life but I find it mind boggling that these people are hired to do this job and do it with no rhyme of reason on how they pack bags. I guess I just think in a more organized way.

I've never had a problem with bagging my groceries. Since I walk or bike, I can only buy as much as I can carry anyway, so it's usually in a basket. I can generally unload while the person before me is paying, and I put heavy stuff first when possible. Then as they scan, I load up my backpack, and then my reusable bags, maybe pausing while I pay, then finish up. If there are baggers, they might help me, and if necessary I'll tell them to leave the heavy stuff for me to put in my backpack.
The part I hate about bagging groceries is using the self checkout, and having to put things on the sensors without bags, and then having to pack it up after. Waste of time all around. I prefer staffed checkouts, but sometimes the lines are so long and the self-checkouts are empty so I'll do that instead. Honestly you should get money off for using a self checkout, it saves them staffing costs and I'm doing their job for them.

Honestly you should get money off for using a self checkout, it saves them staffing costs and I'm doing their job for them.

Ha. Are you familiar with that awkward moment when the next person in line sees that you've just paid the machine and starts walking towards your station but you're not actually done yet? Sometimes they get right next to me and look confused because something other than the normal routine is happening.

Oh yeah, it happens sometimes. And I've done it too. Then you realize so you look for a free one, but it's too late because then the person behind you is already going there.. awkward all around. This is why I prefer old fashioned cashiers. Although then there's the problem of someone announcing "new cash is open!" and the people at the back of the line run there first. So rude!

i know this thread is about things we hate, but there is a simple solution to the bagging problem.  i take my own bag and tell teh bagger 'i got it, thank you' and they usually are busy enough to find something else to do for 3 minutes while i bag the stuff.  also tell the checker to send me the heavy stuff first so it goes in the bottom, or place items on the counter in order i want to bag them.

as for the Looks from people behind me.. oh well!  i do my thing you do yours and frankly it's usually faster for me to bag than to wait for the checker to start bagging.

I guess I just think in a more organized way.

excellent point.  i usually have one big bag of stuff and that's it.  we're fortunate to live near 4 grocery stores and never have to stock up on anything.

When I shop I always get the bargains and stock up. I have a mini grocery store in my basement. I despise running out of anything. I could feed the entire neighborhood and not blink an eye! LOL!

That brings up another thing I hate, really just cant stand is when the person in front of me is paying by check and hasnt even filled out the store name yet until there whole purchase is done!

The store I mostly go to the Cashier usually bags but I always help them because I like to pack them heavy and the less bags the better. Plus I pretty much shop every morning its blocks away so we have less waste, save $ and less bags anyhow.

I gotta jump in as my "thing I hate" is sort of related.
I HATE WHEN THE PERSON BEHIND ME IN LINE IS ABSOLUTELY LOSING IT ABOUT HAVING TO WAIT... and trying to draw me into their anger.  For whatever reason, this happens to me all the time.  There will be some kind of SLIGHT delay... I mean, I am not talking a 30 minute wait at an upscale grocery store where in theory you are paying more for better service... I am talking about the Dollar Tree, the salvage grocery store, places like that.
Inevitably, I get into line and there's an elderly or a person perhaps with a disability a few people ahead of us and it's slowing the line down.  Or there's a person getting balloons and we are waiting for them to pick them out.
The person behind be starts shifting around a lot, then they start sighing really loud, then eventually they mutter a few things about how they need to open another register - all while progressively trying to make eye contact with me, or engage me verbally to complain with them.
NO.  I do not want to complain.  I don't want to ride on the misery bus with you.  I have my own misery bus that I ride at different times and I just refuse to add to it.  NO.

I genuinely do not know the situation of the person behind me, perhaps they have a medical condition and need to get out of the store as soon as possible- perhaps they have a dependent who is waiting for them to be picked up from school/daycare/whatever, I am sure I am having a blind-spot here.
BUT... if waiting in a line is the worst part of your entire day, that's a pretty ok day... ya know?

We're on the do not call list but it doesn't stop 'em all. It's gotten to the point where we now totally waste their time with bs. Fun things we've done with telemarketers:

- tell the "car warranty" people that we have 587,000 miles on our car from a few trips to Alaska and every minute detail about it until they get bored and hang up
- fart really loudly into the phone
- pretend to have sex
- keep them on the line acting as if we are interested and then give them bogus cc info or an address laden with vulgarities
- start singing the chorus of "I will always love you" incredibly loud
- answer in a different language, sometimes mixing a few different ones
- stay on the line and refer to yourself exclusively in the third person

It's quite fun coming up with new ideas actually, I think I might tell them my husband is dead next time they call.
There are some good videos on YT of reverse-scamming to waste scammers' time, e.g. this (guy pretends to be grandmother/granddaughter duo; he has spent up to 4 hours on one call in another video), or even more clinical analysis after hacking into a scammer's operations, e.g. this. I didn't know how these kind of scams even worked until watching videos of this sort.

I don't use bags.

I use a cardboard box from the produce aisle and load it as the cashier scans each item.

One  box is easier to carry than multiple bags.

At the grocery store I hate it when the person in front of me is yakking away on their cell phone and acts like it's some big inconvenience when they ultimately have to drag their credit card and pay. The nerve of the cashier for interrupting their Very Important Call!

When I shop at WINCO you have to bag up your own stuff. At the more mainstream store I go to, they hire developmentally disabled adults to bag up the purchases. I try to be kind and so long as they don't put cans or jars on top of the more fragile stuff I'm good. These people are just doing their best.

A while back we decided to bring metals into the local recycler who takes all kind of metal, including soda cans, food cans, etc. We usually make 1 trip/6 months. We only get ~$15 per trip. The little extra cash is great, but it is not about the money. We just want to make sure these metals get recycled. We also bring plastic bags to local grocery store.

At the grocery store I hate it when the person in front of me is yakking away on their cell phone and acts like it's some big inconvenience when they ultimately have to drag their credit card and pay. The nerve of the cashier for interrupting their Very Important Call!

I have always want a little device that can block/jam cell signals. See someone being loud and ignorant while talking on the phone, turn this device and kill his cell signal for a bit. See someone who cut you off because they are on the phone, maybe this person should not be on the phone... See someone who keep talking loudly on phone while watching little kids practice, yeah time to stop talking :)

Maybe illegal but that would be very useful to have...

At the very least, maybe you could do this in your own home. Is that even possible? Maybe not in an instant like you're describing, but for a whole evening or something. I never thought about it until I read this, but I'd love to be able to block the cell signal (and turn off the WiFi -- that part's easy) at my house for those rude guests who insist on scrolling Facebook or Instagram while I'm trying to have a conversation with them.

I hate commercials, especially sing songy ones that try to drill their product name into your head by singing some stupid, stupid song. If you notice, almost every commercial has to have MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC! GRRRRRRR!!!!

New medicines, windows, faucets, insurance, drain cleaning companies...gotta have a song!

Tree squirrels and the people who feed them.

-they're invasive
-They can eat all of my lead flashing faster than they die of lead poisoning
-They destroy landscaping
-They have gnawed, quite literally, 1/2" off the entire top of my fence

And the people who feed them:
Throwing half a coffee can of nuts into the leaf pile out our back door feeds the squirrels, but it also feeds rats and mice... Who come into my shop and destroy thousands of dollars worth of stuff. I politely suggest not feeding the squirrels, or at least, do in small amounts in a tin you can bring inside at night so the extra doesn't feed nocturnal pests. This suggestion is met with swear words, how I hate animals, etc.

I considered a agressive rodent erradication program, but the landlord was interested in finding out about this tenant feeding the rodents, which the landlord was battling as well.   The new tenant doesn't feed the squirrels, luckily.

Well, I hate the cablevision provider I have and previously have had. I hate the scammy way they operate with their specials that run for a year and then once the year is up, they jack up the prices. Then you call to try to get back on the 'special' and they claim there is nothing at this time. GRRRRR!!! On top of that, I eliminated two cable boxes. I had some cable issues at that time and the technician said he could not take the boxes with him. That I had to call customer service and they would send me prepaid labels and cartons to mail them back. They use UPS so I ended up going directly to the UPS facility to ship them out. I just got my cable bill which is outrageous since I don't have any extra sports channels, no HBO, Showtime or Cinemax and my bill is still super high. I opened my bill this month and got a shock! It was $100 higher than normal! Turns out, they charged me a $100 fee for unreturned equipment! GRRRRR!!!  I got on the phone and called. Well, wouldn't you know it, the guy tells me they DID receive my equipment. He then adjusted my bill to reflect I didn't owe the $100. I bet they would have gladly taken my $100 and not returned it had I paid it.

Why are these cable companies allowed to operate this way? You get electric from the electric company and they don't put you on a special plan for a year then jack it up. Same with other providers like garbage pick up. My bill is the same unless they have a price increase once in a while. They don't have 'specials'.

In Norway we have this with electricity. With the difference that they jack you up much faster than a year. They put you on a new plan with very similar name, but very expensive. Therefore, you better not buy the cheapest, but one that is reasonably cheap over time. And watch them like an eagle.

The other thing with electronic recipes, is that the iPad (or other electronic device that you put in the kitchen while cooking) is switching itself off. For security reasons we do of course have a password/fingerprint on the iPad. So every time it switches of, I need go grab it and put my thumb on the scanner. Not practical while you are cooking and have ingredients smeared out on your hands.

Paper cookbooks that stay open on the right page are a relieve. I have a standard for it, bought when we sold out previous house. That does the job.

You can temporarily change your settings so that it doesn't turn off automatically like that. Pretty simple.
