Also... who's financially on the hook for the destruction of hte satellite? 

Usually, the satellite owner takes launch insurance on it.
Huh.  How much does that cost for a ~$150MM satellite on a relatively new launch program like Space X?
Plus lost revenue from the project.

I see their success tempered by their failures. I'm glad they're taking the risks and putting forth the effort, though.

Stoked to see another successful launch and booster landing/recovery.  Looking forward to when they relaunch a first stage ("flight tested" in SpaceX lingo) later this year.  Until they accomplish that a half-dozen times with the same first-stage all of this re-entry acrobatics is just impressive eye candy.
