The last two years my dad and I have taken a trip to bike the Katy Trail (
http://www.bikekatytrail.com/) which runs most of the width of Missouri. It's very convenient because you can take a bike on the Amtrak basically from one end to the other to get started and it's all on a dedicated bicycle trail, but thinking about trying something new this year. It looks like all the other Amtrak routes that allow bikes are on the coasts.
Does anybody have suggestions for a good loop to do so we don't have to worry about transportation? What I'm looking for:
- The reason for an alternate route is to see something new, so looking for interesting scenery for at least part of it.
- Not too hilly- my dad is recovering from in injury and won't be in optimal physical condition (he had a pretty bad crash while trying to carry a trailer)
- Ideally a loop 175-250 miles. An out and back half that distance might be OK.
- Maximum 8 hour drive from St. Louis
