Recommendations for good science blogs/websites/podcasts?
« on: July 19, 2015, 10:59:00 AM »
I enjoy reading the science and technology sections of the New York Times, arstechnica.com, and listening to the Science Friday podcast. I thought people here might have other recommendations for sites that offer good and interesting science reporting and commentary.

io9.com is quite general but they occasionally have great articles, especially by one of the authors George Dvorsky.

RadioLab is an NPR podcast that is generally science centric but for a broad audience.

Wired has some science centered topics as well.

Some people swear by the "Space Show" radio program (available as podcasts online).

Science Talk (Scientific American--huge back catalog available too)
Many TED talks are sciencey (and they have a podcast)

Planet Money.

Have you thought about following a massive open online course in a subject you're interested in?

And You Tube has a never ending supply of all sorts of very cool science stuff.    I mean super cool stuff.  Just pick your topic and surf away for it.

There is a great YouTube called "Crash Course."  They talk about everything- the history ones are my favorite- but the science-themed shows are excellent as well.

http://omegataupodcast.net/ 2-3 hour long conversations with an expert. Heavy on space / aerospace, assumes engineer/techie level of interest/background. Unfortunately half of them are seemingly encrypted.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01gyd7j  BBC's "In our time" , hour long discussion about a specific topic with 3-4 experts but hosted by and aimed at non-scientist.  (see top 10 list http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01gnr34  )
They also have talks on history, philosophy, literature etc - one of the BBC's best podcasts.
