Yes.  I thought it did a thoroughly good job of telling a story almost exclusively with pictures instead of mere mayhem or the bad action flick standby, bad dialogue. The mayhem was very well done.  They may have overdone Furiosa's role as she completely outshone the main character, Mad Max.  I too like leading ladies like my coffee - hot and strong.

But you do libertarians a disservice calling it a libertarian world. It is more accurately anarchy, though even old-school anarchists never wanted anything like that.  Neither ideology would survive such a world which in effect would at best become neo tribal/neo feudal.

I dunno. I got the impression from TNG the Federation operated on political/social/economic principles as far ahead of ours as their starships.  I may be wrong about that but I know feudalism when I see it.  The "civilized" world in Mad Max is just that.  There's The Man. He's got The Gold (and the guns, fuel, water). And he makes The Rules. Everyone else sucks up to him and his favored minions or they bleach their bones in the desert.  That doesn't change much even if The Man is Tina Turner.

I haven't seen it yet, but I can't wait to check it out.

From the trailers it looks amazing. My only fear is it won't live up to the hype now all my friends have told me how great it is.

The Road Warrior was one of my most favorite movies ever. Fury Road is an exceptionally worthy sequel to the series! If you liked the originals at all (especially Road Warrior), you should have a blast with this movie.

Epic movie. And even though it's not necessarily mustachian to pay to see a first-run movie in 3-D complete with a giant bucket of popcorn, I might even go so far as to do it a second time. Yes, the movie was that good IMHO.

Haven't seen it.  But my dad, who loves the original, walked out!  Couldn't believe my ears.

I'll wait to rent it, and watch it when the SO isn't around (she hates action flicks).

Seems like I'm the only one around who didn't think much of it.  Reminded me of a line from Hamlet - "a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing."

I'm a fan of the original trilogy, they each had a story to them.   This just seemed to be about the special effects and little else.

Got a couple of free movie coupons so my wife and I will be checking it out this coming weekend...and because we are doing a "frugal June" we are going to smuggle food into the theatre! No $8 popcorn for us!

This movie is right up our alley....

Wow, I guess I'm one of the few who thought it was decidedly mediocre.

I get a free movie ticket when I donate blood (every 8 weeks), so that means my husband and I only go to the movies once every 4 months. I had no interest in seeing Mad Max until everyone started talking about how amazing it was and how it's so feminist. So I caved and saw it. And now I'm mad that I wasted my free tickets on it. Nothing happened, the entire movie was a car chase, and having a bad-ass female lead does not a feminist movie make.

Interesting.  I suppose if you ONLY watched Charlize Theron that would be a solid observation.  But they had the whole maiden (the young women), mother (Furiosa), crone (the crotchety, formidable, old women) archetypes thing going in a hyper violent über male dominated patriarchal moonscape. (Reminds me of Afghanistan)  The women, if freed of that crap, are the world's only hope of survival and a life WORTH surviving to live if the guys will only just GTFO of the way.  Mad Max himself gets relegated to the background with dialogue that makes Clint Eastwood look like a chatterbox.  When he does act it's because he as at least the nominal hero understands he better get with the program or bleach his bones in the desert.

It ain't intellectual feminism but there's lots of explosions.
