Get creative and check out Pinterest for ideas.  Our house was built in the late 1800s and has very little storage.  Our bathroom for example has next to no storage.  We don't have a closet or anything. When we moved in there were cabinets between the studs which is deep enough for toiletries but not much else.  Similar to this:

We put up baskets behind our toilet for towels similar to this:

And then added a shelf above the door with baskets for other items.  Similar to this:

I want to do another between the studs cabinet for our mops and stuff as it seems to be a great use of space.

Yes, one thing if we ever move and refurnish would be furniture that had storage space. For instance, I have two coffee tables in the living room with a glass top and a bottom shelf that can only hold a vase. A total waste of storage space and on top of that they are round shape. Rectangle or square would have taken much less space and a cabinet below could have stored something. My dining room table is big and I have another leaf hidden away and then it would be a boat. I could take the leaf out I have in it now and that would make the table about a foot shorter. However, it is still a bulky table.

I saw a video on Germany and they said they don't have closets in the typical German house.  People buy stand alone dressers for their clothing.  Now I understand IKEA.

Same way in Italy.
