online puzzles?
« on: October 07, 2016, 02:16:35 PM »
Any recs for free or inexpensive online word/number puzzles other than crossword puzzles? Phone apps would be ideal.

Here's a site I found that offers a daily free cross-sum: http://www.freexsums.com/

And free anacrostics: http://www.acrostics.org/

I don't have any specific recommendations - but when I was preparing for the GRE I found some of the practice apps to be quite fun.

I actually just donated to him via PayPal recently, because I use the site so much.

Specifically, the wife and I have gotten hooked on Killer Sudoku (WAY better than regular Sudoku, IMO), and Suguru.

But there's a BUNCH of different ones, all free to play, and a bunch of each type (no waiting a day for a "free daily" one, you can binge).

Built to work great on a phone/tablet.

Mastermind is also fun to kill a little time: http://www.web-games-online.com/mastermind/index.php

Oh cool, that has cross-sums too. Though I find them harder to do online, because I can't write little notes to myself.

Are you on a laptop?  You can always just use notepad or a sticky-note program or something.

They have to be in the right place on the puzzle to be useful. Part of the process of elimination.

I could print them out, I suppose, but it seems wasteful.

It does have little note features on possibilities.

Check out the iPhone game Parks (little trees on a grid). I think if you have an Android you get 100 or so puzzles, but if have an iPhone you have 750+ and three daily puzzles (different every day). The same developer (can't think of the name) also has an app called Logic or Logic Puzzles which has a dozen or so games (I only got into about three of them).
