Director David Lynch, 78

Sportscaster Bob Uecker, 90

I loved those Miller Lite commercials with Bob. They were hilarious. Growing up, our family always used the line "I must be in the front row" lol.

Oh, yes! Thanks for reminding me of that!

Roberta Flack.

DH said, "Eighty eight and out the gate." I am sure the gates of heaven have already welcomed her in and the angel's chorus is chortling with delight about their newest member.

Weird.  What would kill both of them and their dog?  A gas leak or fire or something?

They're treating it as suspicious. Utility company said they didn't see any leaks, but apparently they've been dead for over a week so it's possible any gas dissipated.

Turned out she died of hantavirus (!) and then his dementia meant he wasn't able to survive and died a few days later.  The dog died in a crate.  What a tragic way for it all to happen.

I just saw this, but I don't think many people under age ~45-50 know of him.

True! I'm in my early 50s and the only reason I know him is because my mom was watching The Thorn Birds mini-series in the 80s and I must have caught some of it. However, on his bio, I see he played the original Jason Bourne on a TV miniseries. I'd like to see that.

He played some great characters. Real Genius, Heat, Tombstone, of course Iceman, and others. I have never see the Doors movie.

Sounds like he was not the best coworker/ employee. Doesn’t take away from the entertainment he gave me, but sounds like a real tool on set. Of course, me not caring how people are and still buying tickets has empowered some real bad people in the industry. Sigh…

Well, he certainly wasn’t the only one, and won’t be the only one.  And most of your financial support through buying tickets was probably way before you had any inkling about any poor behavior on his part.

Pope Francis

Boy, what a time for "Conclave" to have been released as a film.

I'm not Catholic (nor religious, generally speaking) but I'll be very interested to see who is elected as the new Pope. Francis was a strong proponent for marginalized communities, which didn't sit well with a lot of traditional Catholic leadership. It'll be interesting, given the moment, to see where the Catholic Church sees its future...

On Easter.  If he had to go, it was perfect timing.

He chose his papal name after Saint Francis of Assissi.  Very fitting.

True.  And apparently she left behind 3 little children.  How one person's actions leads to generational trauma.

She was in an auto accident recently and reported that she only had a few days to live. The comments were brutal.

May she rest in peace. You are absolutely right, her family will struggle. They deserve empathy, but based on the treatment their mother received, that may be too much to hope for. So much sadness.

I agree that she was brave to have followed through despite the pressure she must have been under to just remain an unknown victim.

However, it’s difficult to know what actually happened around the month leading up to her death. It’s rather confusing. When she died this week, her family said she died of suicide. This was four weeks after the bus crash, which was only reported after the event because there were supposedly no injuries (if there were injuries, particularly as it was a school bus, it would have had to be reported at the time and police would have attended). The accident was between a bus and a car driven by a 71 year old woman, so it may have been slow, or not. The police didn’t attend the accident because it wasn’t reported until after everyone had left the scene (her family had said that the police refused to attend the scene) by the bus driver later in the day. Her family reported to the media that she only had a few days to live after the accident, and said she had renal failure. I think this may have been before the bus driver reported the accident because there was a lot of confusion in the media that there was any accident at all. Even the hospital didn’t know that there had been an accident.

I’m sure the family has been through a very traumatic month already. You wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

On-air meteorology and weather broadcasting pioneer, Gary England, 85.

Outside of a cameo appearance in Twister (1996) or seeing specials covering the 03 May 1999 Oklahoma tornado outbreak, most people outside of Oklahoma are more likely to be familiar with his work and legacy in modern commercial weather forecasting for local news stations than his face - such as creating First Warning, the state/county severe weather map bugs in the corner overlaid over regular programming used on broadcast television; helping commission and design the first commercial doppler weather radar systems now used nationwide by countless TV stations; and Storm Tracker, the weather radar storm front ETA tool used on broadcast weather alerts to estimate storm arrival for communities.

He is the pioneer that helped create these life-saving tools for commercial broadcast television, as well as being the grandpappy founder creating the culture of the modern, near exhaustive and clown-like circus of modern, breathless storm coverage on local news stations along with storm chasing.

Make of that legacy what you will.
