Lunar Eclipse

Hey everyone, just wanted to remind you all to go catch the Lunar Eclipse tonight. It should be good, as it coincides with a supermoon as well. For the more photography oriented people, pictures are always great to share :)

Saw it in full bloom just before the clouds rolled in.

Wife and I walked over to Dairy Queen and got a couple of sundaes and then went over to a nearby field to watch the eclipse unfold. After a while we got a bit cold and went over to a McDonald's to get a hot chocolate. :) We are total geeks for this sort of thing - it a gorgeous, rare cloudless PNW night...and the heavens have put on a heck of a show.

Yep, I saw it too. I went to the beach for the monthly drum circle/fire acrobatics FREE show on the beach. Just a bunch of free spirits that have randomly come together to put this on for every full moon. A circle is set up, the drummers surround the circle, and then individual people enter the circle and do some fire acrobatics. There was a fire eating woman, hula hoops with flames, fire stick acrobatics...really quite amazing.

This is the first time I actually went specifically to sit there and hang out and see it. I've gone over to the beach other times for long walks during the full moon and heard some random people playing bongos and drums, but today I found out where it was going to be and it was awesome!

I didn't spend a dime to experience this.

Heh. I'm at Fort Hood for a month long class, and drug some people out of their barracks rooms to see it with me. Turned out spectacular, though if I was back home I could of used the telescope in my house. The color was really dark, and beautiful.

I missed the better part of it, but I snapped this pic from my apartment an hour ago, just after waking up.

Jon_Snow - have you been to the observatory in Vanier Park (at the Planetarium)? So awesome and with very enthusiastic volunteers/staff to talk all about night sky events :)

Yes! Actually, DW and I consider ourselves budding astronomers (we keep a fairly beefy telescope over on our island) so the Planetarium is a place we enjoy.

This Summer we dazzled folks with night time planet and star gazing sessions...it's wonderful to see how amazed people are when they see the rings of Saturn, or the moons of Jupiter with their own eyes!

Thick cloud cover and continuous drizzle in Houston from 9AM all the way through the night.  :-(

Light clouds here, but I saw all of it.  The moon was well risen before it started, so it didn't look as big as if it had been near the horizon, but a good show.  The red didn't really show until after full eclipse. Definitely neat to see.

It was pretty low in the sky from our house, and partly behind some trees.  It was OK.

Santa Cruz, CA here. Was hazy hazy hazy. Went up to the summit of Hwy 17. Lots of other people had the idea, and was hazy there too, and then the officer asked us to leave.

Then got to see a little of the end and it was spectacular. Events and Alignments are special.

And then they announced water on Mars and then SP500 dropped 3% and thats the news for Monday! Ok we're done here.

We had a beautiful view from just down the road from our place -- we drove out into the dark country a bit and had a fun, free, family activity :-)

Ended up getting pretty lucky with that one.  We had some clouds roll through but were able to watch most of beginning to totality.  At that point it was getting pretty late, so no big deal the clouds covered it all up.  :-)

Had 2 telescopes setup for viewing and a friend stopped over.  Good times.
