Like many people, I don't answer my cell phone for callers that I don't already know. If the call is legit, they can leave a voice mail and I will call them back.
Still, curiosity gets the best of me and I usually Google unfamiliar phone numbers that call me. If the number comes up as a telemarketer I set them to an ignore list.
Sometimes they are just innocent wrong numbers.
Maybe a year ago a site called Hodges Directory stared showing up in Google phone number search results. Pretty handy, I thought, as it seemed to show name and address results for both private cell and land lines.
But I tried putting my cell phone number (I've had the same number for 13 years) and I got a bogus result. Wrong name and address, only the city was right.
So I tried many of the non business numbers in my contacts list, and Hodges Directory failed to correctly identify even one number's owner name and address.
Also note, I could not find any way to search on the Hodges site. All searches were done through Google using the
site:hodges-directory.us/
parameter.
Whats the purpose of a 100% wrong phone reverse look up? Ad traffic? If so, why hasn't Google caught on and removed them from search results?
