Here is hoping 2018 is better
« on: December 31, 2017, 09:22:07 PM »
Or at least more peaceful.

What a year 2017 was. I was strongly urged out of a job I loved into one I ended up not really liking, so work kind of failed to excite. I finally got pregnant and had the drama of a high-risk, closely- monitored pregnancy that ended up with me hospitalized after my water broke at 32 weeks, an emergency c-section under general anesthesia, and a preemie in the NICU (again). We bought a house and moved. We did several remodel projects that were supposed to be done before the baby came and instead started after she was born. I stayed with my parents for two weeks during the worst of the construction with a toddler, a newborn, no husband, and then the N CA fires hit and locked us all indoors around the clock. My elementary school burned to the ground. My husband had two uncles pass away. I took my newborn across the country to visit family and my grandmother was able to hold the baby in her hospice bed a day and a half before she died. My husband went on a couple of long international business trips, once while I was pregnant and once with a newborn at home. My baby wakes up a million times a night and my toddler has taken up screaming in the middle of the night for attention. A friendís husband died after a year-long struggle with aggressive, incurable brain cancer. I go back to work in another day, completely unprepared to function during the day after being woken up 6-8 times a night.

All in all I am feeling glad that 2017 is behind me and really hoping that 2018 will shape up to be an easier year. I am spent, emotionally and physically.

Wishing everyone a happy 2018.

Amen.

Personally, 2017 was fantastic for me and my husband. No complaints.

Politically, though, my heart bleeds for so many people in this country. I feel sick for so many. I hope and pray that 2018 will be better for them.
Please note: Libertarian4321 did not vote for either Hillary or Trump. He voted for Gary Johnson, who was the Libertarian candidate.

x2. We are all healthy and blessed, but know a lot of people who are not as fortunate. I hope 2018 will be better.

You bring up a good point about politics. I have been so self-absorbed lately that it hasnít been on my mind as much, but clearly that is a big negative of 2017 as well.

Tried to write something profound, but can't improve on this: "My thoughts are with you.  Wishing you and your family a joyous and peaceful new year."

2017 sucked for me but there has been good too. Trying to focus on that. Sorry you had such a rough year! Hope for a better 2018 for you!

I really hope you have an amazing 2018. My 2017 wasn't so great from a personal perspective either, financially it was awesome though so that's the bright side. For me in 2017 my son came back home there are good and bad parts to that. My FIL moved in with us so we could care for him. I spent many trips going to AZ to take care of my Step-Mom and my Dad. My Step-Mom died, my Dad is doing bad. My Dad fell, broke 3 ribs, his shoulder, punctured his lung, and had a brain bleed this is on top of many other issues. Lastly right before Christmas my Grandmother died. So yeah, I'm hoping for a much better 2018 myself. I figure I've got nowhere to go but up.

Wow-ysette - wishing you a much better 2018 all around - health, wealth and happiness to you!:)

2017 - Essentially a good year. Financially a disaster for the cash stash but a good improvement of the retirement stash for Mr. R. thanks to a booming market.
Great vacation, great times with an old friend, a long-awaited eye surgery that went better than expected, but also turned out to be more complicated than expected.

2018 looking good so far - looking forward to meeting new goals and a long trip. Keeping my fingers crossed the markets will hold for the next four years:)

Sometimes the personal way overshadows the political, and you've had a lot on your plate this past year. Here's hoping 2018 treats you a bit more gently. Onward and upward, yes? :)

Wow, that is a lot to go through! I hope 2017 was just a fluke and that each year is better than the last. Cheers!

So yeh that makes it an awesome yr for me, in reality, the fine 12 months in a long-term with all the grief I've needed to go through. Hopefully, the year turned into my turning point and matters will now be getting better for me and my circle of relatives.

That was indeed a bad year for you.

With your toddler and your sleep deprivation, it can only become better when your child gets older. I also hope you don't have to live in big construction projects for the next few years.

Grand parents have to die sometime, as expected. Good that your grandmother has been able to hold her child.

For all the other things, like fires, you should statistically get better.

If you survived that, @ysette9, you can survive anything.

That's what you can take into this year, that are ready for whatever it's going to throw at you.

Thanks for the positive thoughts. Things should be better this year. We are still working on the sleep thing though. Come on, little baby!

2017 was a shitty year for me too. In terms of bad things just happening, probably the worst year I've ever had. It was mostly a series of bizarre and terrifying health issues, one right after the other, that just never ended, to the point that I began to think the universe was actually out to get me and there were times I didn't care that much whether I woke up or not.

Besides that a relationship ended which devastated me, and a family member was diagnosed with dementia in her late 60's and is fading fast.

The health issues are sort of resolved, not totally gone but at least I'm not in crisis at the moment, knock on wood. And as for the relationship we actually got back together, which I never thought would happen.

So I couldn't wait for 2017 to end. Worst year of my life.
