Gone?

I have a LG GU295 that I've been using since 2010, never owned a smartphone. Technically it slides open but it's a feature phone with a regular keypad so I think it qualifies. It works great for my needs. When I travel I generally have access to a smartphone with GPS so I can't claim complete independence from smartphones. If you use GPS, that would probably be one of the hardest things to give up.

If you don't use GPS or need the ability to check emails for work, I'd say go for it. That's my take but you might get a more relevant opinion from someone who's used a smartphone and gone back.

I think I got my first cell phone only about 15 years ago, when I bought a bare bones at&t flip phone.  It still works, but about 8 years ago I passed it on so my mother could have a cell phone, and I replaced it with a new version of the same model.

I'm not sure what experience you want me to share...I think my husband's smart phone has a great camera, and on the rare occasions we road-trip, it's useful for navigation.  But those features aren't enough trade-off for the very high monthly cost and the constant connectivity (which I don't like), so I don't pine after getting one myself.

My phone is a phone and a 'watch' for me. It works fine as long as my carrier has towers in the area.  I have had to replace the batteries a few times over the years.

I've only ever had flip phones, and it's been fine. I don't know what to say about the experience. I call people. People call me. It doesn't break when I drop it. It makes for an excellent clock when I'm out and about. I don't have any desire for a smart phone.

I used a flip phone up until about 1.5 years ago. I would still be using one if I wasn't running a small side gig where having a smart phone is hugely beneficial. I also really enjoy the pictures it takes while hiking and not having to carry around an extra camera. I do miss the flipper though.

If you're doing Uber/Lyft, it's a necessity. Is that what you do?

I like listening to stuff on the phone at the gym and wen driving or just playing video games at home. The GPS is a great aspect, too, but I can just get separate one. They're cheap enough.

I do carpentry work on the side. It's great if I have a question about something or need some materials from the local big box store.

My husband and I had flip phones until about two years ago.  People used to laugh at my husband in the street: "Man, that guy's talking on a flip phone!"  and I had trouble getting group texts. But it was in general fine. In fact, I was happier because I didn't feel on call as much.  On the downside, it is once in a while helpful to use the smartphone to look up addresses or other info when I'm out and about.
