Golf Cart
« on: April 23, 2014, 10:34:50 AM »
There is a lot of talk about electric cars for people in the city.  In our town the city wisely passed a law that allowed slightly modified golf carts to use streets where the speed limit is less than 35 mph.  This limits us to all of the town and the next town.  I bought a used electric golf cart, modified for street use, for $2400 with new batteries.  I have used it for three years and it has served me well for getting around town for errands and entertainment.  Charged when in the garage.  Range is only about 10 miles today because the batteries are getting old.

If your city passed such a law, would you consider an electric golf cart?  Gas powered golf carts get great mileage and your range is unlimited.  Would you consider a gas powered golf cart?

On streets where the speed limit is less than 35, and within 10 miles of my house, I'd just take a bike. If I were physically unable to bike, I'd probably use that $2400 toward a car that can take me anywhere with no speed or distance limitations.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I can't walk far or ride a bike because of a failed hip replacement (twice failed).  I go for the third time within two months, and we'll see what I can do then.

We have an electric golf cart, we live out in the country, and do use it on the roads sometimes, but more so in our back 30 and for yard work, it's a gator type with a dump box in the back.

It is so fun to drive, I wish more cities had them, super quiet and easier to talk and enjoy nature, plus you can take your whole family.

I have heard of them in retirement type villages.
