Getting rid of old trophies responsibly
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:11:38 AM »
If any of you are like me and you have some trophies hanging around from when you were a kid and want them gone, I recently discovered a way to get rid of them responsibly. While there are some interesting things online about turning trophies into crafts and such, I'm not a crafty person. I'm just environmentally concerned and would like to keep my old trophies out of landfills.

You'll have to pay to ship them if you don't live near Madison, WI. I thought it would be worth it to toss this out into the forums.

In the building where I work is an adult day care center.  They would love to have them to give to their patients as prizes or awards.  It doesn't matter what kind of trophy.  Check with one in your area.

I had a sensei that stuck his trophies out in the garden as ornaments. Why not?

Oh thanks so much for this! I have a box of old trophies languishing in my basement for the same reasons as you. Finally a solution I'm happy with!

You might be able to get rid of them locally by contacting a group for whatever sport/activity the trophies are for.  For instance, I've gotten recycled trophies from smaller horse shows, so obviously someone donated them.  Most of them just have the event info on a little plate that could be easily replaced.

This is an option. I did try this. I contacted the local special Olympics, boys and girls club, various sports clubs, the YMCA, etc. to no avail in my area though. None of the groups I got in touch with wanted my trophies :-(.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
