Oh noes.

Next you'll tell me that the people who don't get robbed and murdered pay for the police who investigate the crimes related to those who do.  Or that the people who don't have a house catch on fire pay for and subsidize the firefighters who help out those who do.  Or that the people who rarely drive anywhere are subsidizing the roads that are used by those who drive long distances daily.  Or that people without kids have to pay for poor children's access to education.  The horrors of choosing to live in a country that prioritizes greater good over selfishness.

I think it's the method I have a problem with not the concept.  If the people of the country did prioritize the greater good over themselves they wouldn't need tricks to pass the ACA.  We are supposed to be a democracy.  If the majority of the people don't want all that is involved in the ACA, then it should not have passed.  It basically passed by lies of omission and outright lies.

I'm not a big fan of the ACA.  I think it's a half-ass step towards single payer (which would be fine with me).  Either get the government completely out or completely in.  This current solution sucks big ones.

God or Mammon?

What do any of those things have to do with politicans acting unethically to ram an unpopular bill through?

Is it any wonder that the electorate resoundlingly is against it in its current form and the recent election turned out the way it did?

Were they to be voted on in today's political environment, none of the things mentioned would pass.  Society has become smaller, meaner, and more self-centered.  Using selective language and careful crafting to sneak things by legislators in order to pass a bill seems more like business as usual in Washington than some unusual and dastardly act.

Dastardly yes.  Unusual? Unfortunately not.

Are you talking about the USA or Canada when you bash all of society?

Both.  Major political trends tend to filter up here eventually from the US.

Well hopefully you guys can "enjoy" some ACA style (over-priced and average) healthcare in the near future...
